Nancy came up with a great idea - and both of us would like your input as to how to do these. I'll attach a photo of our first draft - a sample which will be fine-tuned and fixed up and such. Don't bother telling me that the tail fin of the tank isn't opaque and stuff like that.
Okay - here's what we want from youse guys: Size, material, content, maybe more.
For size - well, we make dash plaques for a local hot rod club's summer cruise night -- and those are 3 1/2 wide by 2 high -- the size of a business card. We figure that there's at least that much room on the dashboard of most race vehicles. But maybe you'd rather have the plaque in a bigger size so it's frameable for your fireplace lintel. Size, please. I would muchly prefer it if we only make one size, so get your debating about the size over and done with really soon.
Material: This sample was made on silver backing with black lettering - METAL. It's pretty thin aluminum sheet and engraves well. But it doesn't bend to dash board contours as well as a thin plastic would bend. Also -- I can't use the laser to pre-drill holes for mounting on the laser, either. I can mark the corners at coordinated positions so you'll know where to drill. We DO INTEND to supply double-sided sticky tape to mount these things on your dash - or whatever. If they get done in plastic -- well, the plastic is just as likely to last forever as the metal, 'specially since this plaque will probably be indoors (dashboard or house). Even if you put it in full sunlight it'll last well into your old age. Plastic is a softer material than the metal so it'll be shapeable to your dash contours more easily than will be metal. The two materials engrave about the same - so let me know which you prefer. Again - get your yammering done, about which it oughta be before you make a final commitment so I don't have to fiddle around. Time's short, you know. Color of this one is black engraving on silver background -- but we've got some other colors in stock. Not lots of them, but some. It takes a week or so to get more material in from the vendor - so figure out what you'd like really soon, hey? By the color way -- the engraving process is two-color only - - background and text. That's the way it goes.
We have to have these completed by Wednesday evening next week (the 26st of October) 'cause we leave bright and early the next morning.
Content: The belly tank and text below the tank are the "old" ECTA logo -- we want those on there for sure. Nancy suggested the banner that's above, and that's where I put the dates of the Maxton event (or did Maxton per se start going at a different date?). But speking of content - I could easily put stuff like your vehicle number, top speed, your name, etc. If I try to get all of that into the small space -- it'll be there, but you'll need a good pair of glasses to read the tiny type.
More: Would you prefer a large size so you can put it on the wall of your race trailer or house of bathroom? It'll be a little most costly if you want 'em big -- but it should be THAT much more. Other more: What else would you like us to do with the design of the plaques?
Oh, yeah -- Please be aware that we can take an order from you later than next week -- but you won't get it/them at the event itself. We'll mail it to you later -- and you'll get the fun privilege of paying a couple of bucks for postage.
Finally: Cost will be $10/each for the small size, and $15 if you choose the largest (11 wide x 8 1/2 tall) size. I can make 'em any size, but smaller is better so we don't run out of material before we hit the road.
Enough. Get to thinking and maybe even sending me a PM with your orders. As usual, pay through the Paypal buttons here and there on the site. We'll give you 10% off on the entire order (well, save for postage) if you order three or more of your particular design.
Photo follows:
Great idea Nancy, and Slim.
Hey folks how about 3x5, index card size on plastic. would give a little more room for personnal info and easier to read. Not to mention will last.
Jon, you will need a form for info on the plaques with mail to info
I like what you've done here - and a HUZZAH for a great idea. Put me in for 2 (one for me and one for Bro Dave) and I'll pay you in $$ at the track if that's OK. I'll want mine for a dash plaque on the Camaro even though we're taking Mom's car to the actual event. It'll be sold following the meet and somehow doubt the future owner will want this plaque permanently affixed. No idea what Dave will do with his. The business card size with the generic lettering is great by me.
GREAT concept
Dan
Slim - metal - small - it is going on the race bike --- I will PM later - great idea.
Joe
I know that I'll need mailing addresses and such, Glen. I'm just trying to get the basic plaque designed. But to save everyone the hassle of trying to make yet another post -- please include name and address either on this topic when you say you want one or more plaques -- or send a PM/email to me if you don't want your mailing address splashed across the internet.
Okay?
I agree with Joe. Make them small, metal, & black on silver. I agree with all that this is a great idea Jon. I will take 3 on site.
I agree with everything Jarl just posted, but will only get two right now. Perhaps variables such as materials (colors with plastic?), personal info and size could be options, at an appropriate increase in cost, available later.

If that'll open for you -- you'll see a couple of the pages of the engraving stock/colors that we can get. If it doesn't -- well, we can get lots of colors. Remember, though -- only two at a time.
By the other way, here's a photo of the final design of the plaque. Size is 4w x 2.5h. Corners are rounded so you don't scratch the dashboard (or your fingertips). I fixed the little flaws on the tailfin and the "ECTA".

PS No, I can't post it in a form that'll allow enlarging. It's a ".dwg" file and the Forum software doesn't allow them. I'll fiddle with it when I'm not at work - or one of you is welcome to do so if it's important. Otherwise you are welcome to go the the Seldom Seen Slim album on www.photobucket.com and select "Kudos Laser stuff". It's the first one - and when you click on it there it'll enlarge. Sorry for the bother -- but that'll have to do for now.
Slim, I'll take one. Can I pick up and pay for it on my way down to or back from thanksgiving break? PayPal is kind of hard for me.
Mr. Slim we will take 2 small. We'll pick them up at the meet. thanks. they look real good.
John,
One for me please. I will pay at the track.
Thanks,
Peter

I need 2 Jon at the track if you can thanks
terry
You can put me down for one Jon.
I'll also take 2 at the track Jon. Thanks!
I'm glad I saw this thread. Can't get to Maxton, but a friend will pick up a plaque for me. Did you decide on metal or plastic?
The plaques are metal -- silver colored with black engraving.
Thanks for the nice response, folks. You'll have a nice memento of racing during the days at the Maxton airfield ECTA events.
Jon,
Please bring me
2 of the large 8 1/2 x 11
2 of the small ones 2.5 x 4
I will print up a crisp new $50 for you.
See you next Saturday.
Charles
count me in for one of the small ones. Thanks.
Slim, I'll take a small one at the track - it will make a nice memento!
Unfortunately, this is my first and last visit to Maxton
Will you be doing one for the inaugural Ohio Mile in Wilmington?
Give it some thought!
Woody I sent you a PM
Charles
Slim,
I'll take one of the small ones and pick it up at the track, next week.
Woody, I expect that we might be talked into making some kind of plaque for the Ohio experience once there's a logo and a cool name and so on. And for sure we'd put something on it like "I raced the first-ever event at the Ohio Mile". But that's not 'til springtime. No, we don't know if we'll be able to make it -- even though it's just a tad more than half the distance to Maxton. But it's not like we won't try to get there. See you in a week, okay?
Seldom
I will take a large and a small...how much? I wont make Maxton so I will send the $$ to you so if you can figure shipping to 33076 that would be great!
Bill
Slim, I'll take a small one...pick it up at the track...Paul..
Jon, I will take 2 small ones. Shipping will be to 62966, tell me how much and I will see that you get it.
Randy
Randy:
Don't put it here - but what's your address? I've got the ZIP - need the rest. Don't put it here and you'll sorta foil the scammers and spammers. And - this note will remind others that choose to have their plaques mailed to include address. Thanks. You'll get yours. . .
That doesn't sound quite right, does it?
E-mail sent Jon, Thanks.
Slim I will buy at least one small one from you at the track on Saturday.
Ronnieroadster
Slim, I will take two at the track.
/Daniel
Attention everyone:
We've made a few dozen of the small plaques and will have them with us at this weekend's event. Some have been mailed, meaning that if you requested that we mail 'em -- it's been done. The rest of you may just mosey over to our pit and ask Nancy or me for your desired number of the little plaques.
I've counted only a couple of requests for the larger items -- the 8.5 x 11 size, at $15 each. One was to be mailed - and so it has been. I only made one of them (and therefore am down to one now), so unless you get back to me by mid-day tomorrow -- there won't be more than that one for you. Again -- if you wanted your plaque mailed you'll get it that way.
As for a few special orders -- well, Joe's will get done maybe in time for this weekend, and Charles' is still waiting for him to get back to me with some information. I don't think anyone else asked for a personalized plaque, so if you did and I have therefore missed it -- get back to me one more time over again (so to speak) and I'll get to it. I'm afraid that "real" work has now and then got in the way of making these, so some might get made and mailed after we get back to work next Wednesday morning.
But, in the meantime, order more. They're nice mementos of the fun we've had at the Maxton track.
Jon, glad this is working out for you. They won't be sorry 10 years from now when looking back.
Mr. Slim
I'll be happy to buy two of the small ones from you at the track if you're not already on the road heading there and I'm too late!
Looking forward to seeing everyone there--
best regards,
Paul O
Mr Slim ???? :-D
Well, just trying to be polite... must be my southern upbringing. That'd be just south of Boston... :-D
Well - Slim is a gentleman so I guess Mr. Slim is acceptable. My apologies.
Joe
Joe, you're frickin' right I'm a bloody gentleman, and don't you forget it, buttface!

Spoken like a true gentleman.
"Buttface" - I've got to use that word more often.
So speaking of the last Maxton event -- will one or two of you please refresh my memory? When is the big party -- Saturday night or Sunday after racing? We vote for Saturday -- leaving early Sunday midday to deliver the race bike, so prefer that the party not start after we leave. Not that the time and date will change just for us, but maybe. . .

I am pretty sure that Ocktoberfest is scheduled for Saturday p.m.
Mark
Yeah, it's Saturday right after racing ends. BYOB and a chair.
I'll take three and pay you at the track.
Thanks, Chris Saab 9276
Slim it was a pleasure to meet you this weekend at Maxton, I would like to order a small plaque from you if they are still available and I will send a check as soon as I find your address. Hope that you had a good weekend, we sure did and I look forward to seeing you here in Wilmington next year.

Jon and Nancy,
Thanks again for the Plaques (and the custom work on the big ones) The patina effect is cool for sure.. Looks old school like my stuff....
Good seeing you again... see you in Ohio next year and on LR.com.
Have a great winter and safe drive home.

We're someplace in the middle of Pennsylvania, heading for Ohio for the night - and home by tomorrow evening. What's this white stuff around here -- cotton candy for Halloween? It's all over the houses and hilltops. . . :-P
Jon - I got tied up and didn't get to you to buy my plaques. I'll send a check to Up North and we'll do it by mail. Great to see you and Nancy!
Dan
I got mine Jon and it is going on my dashboard of the 1946 roadster. Thanks to you and Nancy.

Slim, you sure that's not salt? :-D
See yuh in O-hi-yuh next year!
Jon, got my plaques yesterday. Thanks,
Bill
I was very late finding this forum, i posted occasionaly on another but almost no activity. I knew the people that make up the ECTA had to be more passionate about their sport, or way of life, than what i was seeing. Anyway, i am here now and enjoying it . Slim, is it too late to purchase the plaques, if not i will want two and maybe three depending on the cost. I would have taken one of the large ones but from what i am seeing it appears they are gone. If you still have the plaques would you email me with the cost and mailing address and i willsend you a check. Thanks, Garrell Patterson
Garrell:
I bought a couple extra. If you can't find one send me a PM with your mailing address and I will send you complements of Bill Reilly Motorsports.
Bill
To them what might be wondering:
I emailed Garrell and let him know the status of extra plaques - and that is that while we don't have any more on hand at Kudos Laser Engraving, we've still got the art in the file - and can pretty easily make more. I've given him the information - but will let you folks know that if you, for some reason, want more of 'em -- we can make and ship them to you. Post or email or PM, hey? And - Merry Christmas.
Jon, did you fall for the old "the checks in the mail " line? Does pony express still deliver the mail near that close to Canada? I looked on the map and you are really in a remote area, that's my kind of country. Somewhere i gave a little history of Tallapoosa, But I can't remember where, did you catch it?.I mailed your check on Monday I think so you should it soon.
Happy New Year later tonight
Garrell
They're in the truck and will be mailed this morning if we get to the P.O. by 11 (that's when Melissa closes on Saturdays). No, your check hasn't arrived yet -- so we're still on slim rations. But that's okay - we're getting to like hardtack dipped in the old bacon grease and served with stale water.
Happy New Year, and yes - I did read your Tallapoosa story. What is it you said -- that it used to be "Bungholio"?
Thanks alot, I don' know how long it would take a check to go from Atlanta, where our mail goes to be post marked, to you. Maybe when you get to the post office your check will be there. That was Possum Snout and there really will be a possum drop and countdown at midnight tonite!
Happy New Year tonight
Garrell
Mr. Slim, I was joking about did the pony express run in northern, northern Michigan. The plaques have not arrived yet, do you remember the date you mailed them and did you recieve my check?
Garrell
Garrell: No, I don't remember the date -- but I think Nancy does, and she's on the phone right now -- I'll get you an answer. - - - - Okay, she says it was this past Tuesday - after the long holiday weekend. You oughta get 'em any day. The check arrived and the bank hasn't called to say it has bounced, so I guess things are okay there.
Let me know (all of you, not just Garrell) if there's anything else I can supply in the way of personalized stuff. Here's a hint of what's next: I'll be making up some photo souvenir stuff for Charles/Cajun Kid. I hope he'll show it to you when he gets it.
To All Jon and Nancy can do custom stuff or you can design your own and pdf or what ever for them.
Good stuff,,, Good Price and Good Service...
Charles
Charles, I did a few things today using photos -- and proved to myself that the better the photo, the better the finished work. If you (and of you) send photos you want worked into coasters or paperweights or coffee cups or whatever -- please send the photo with at least - at minimum - no less than --- 300 dpi (dots per inch). It'll make for a big photo file when you send and will take a moment longer - but it'll be worth it. Don't bother sending photos taken with your cellphone's camera. They just won't work well - at all.
Jon, can you do color photos on big coffee mugs ?

Black car on a black mug, 3 D glasses may be required

I dunno if you'll be able to see anything -- maybe you'll have to be logged in as a Facebooker or some such. Anyway, we put the photos on light-colored (white, in this case) materials. We can use ceramic, like here, or white or natural stainless steel. The surface of the material must have a coating that allows the colors to bond - so I can't necessarily sublimate any ol' item. Today I put photos on coasters and 4x4 ceramic tiles, and then there's the bed sheet that I decorated as a gift. It has, among other photos, the famous shot of the Pasty Pasties being modeled by Nancy. You remember that photo, don't you? No, I won't offer a coffee mug with that pose on it. Ask her - maybe she'll approve it. But I sure won't try it without her permission
Slim, got em and they look nice.
