Handyguy, I'm sure I see this coming: You're gonna get some of the guys here whining that you didn't post enough pictures, and then you'll protest that it's a pain in the kiester to post photos, then I'll swoop in and offer to help you with getting lots of images in your build diary. Therefore, to save time:
If you'd like me to show you ways to do it, or if you want me just to shut up and post 'em for you - please feel free to ask.
This goes for all of you, remember. I'm glad to help.
I'm a bit slow....With shackles at the ends, how does your panhard set-up limit lateral movement?
It looks to me that the Panhard bar is behind the axle. I can't figure out the purpose of the stuff in front.
Wayno
🤔....Friction shocks??
Aha.

I like those friction shocks, never seen them utilized that way before.
Could you mount them 180? (uspside down) and keep them from hanging down underneath?
Stan
That's A LOT of spring under the front end. Wouldn't one or two leaves be about right?
Hi all,
I suppose the lateral movement could have been controlled by the shocks absorbers if they were not mounted via shackles?
Then get rid of the Panhard bar?
I like double use of stuff, shows lateral thinking and innovation.
Then, as the chassis end up in the middle of the axle, how much suspension movement is shared between leaf spring and chassis twisting?
Patrick
I think as the frame goes down ,( the axle goes up ) the arms shorten a little .. I'll test later .. The frame is boxed, so little twist there . The engine is '37 English Austin 48 cu. in. flattie , same engine as in Bantam originally . Bantam engines very rare , like this car .. English engine development is extensive and I work with Paul Bonewell in London , THE EXPERT .
The Bantam !
Springs original 1 1/2" wide , not to stiff , been working on spring rate and travel , shock tension adjustable now..
The engine
UP A BANTAM BUTT , MG Midget diff. , 4:55 gears and hyd. rear brakes , 50's Ford pickup frt, dearched springs ..
A dead perch ( not the fish) on one end of the spring would do double duty. Way cool car.
2022 the wanna be will have a (F) inserted , where?? What is a dead perch ?? floydjer
Jer, you need to tell him - just for the halibut! :-P

A dead perch mounts the spring eye without a shackle...lets it pivot but not travel laterally. Don't know what your axle is, but you might find one that works in that scale.....🤔 ( How was that Woody?)
O.K...Blew up the pic. so I could see....🤔 ..Maybe replace one shackle w/ A triangular plate that uses the axle/spring and radius rod mounting holes. Or just "leave" what you have. (Woody started it ) 😀

Got room to have the fuel tank between the grille and radiator. It would sure clean up the front (and look a lot better in my opinion, too).
Wouldn't have to be too big -- a gallon would do it. Running TO makes it easy to fill whenever you want to, plus going 175 in the 1/4 may be beyond reach for needing 5 miles of fuel.
I've loved your car since years back I (think) remember seeing at El Mirage before you finished it.
This Austin engine.... Is that the dreaded "Austin 7" 4 cylinders with just 2 bearings on the outside of the crank?
Flexy flexy!!!
But I must say, very tasty little car!!!

"UP A BANTAM BUTT"
The pics were not as fowl as I expected from the thread title.
Cr nk is billet , counterbalanced , full oil press. to rods (80 lbs.) , steel rods , .040 crankflex on #2/3 cylinder at 7500 rpm .. 2 ball brgs. at frt. of crank for thrust , 1 roller brg. on rear .. Welded up cam for .312 lift ,( won't flow more , 300 degree duration seat to seat , intake closes at 87 degrees after BDC .

:-o Omigosh! Clever- a displacement increase that can't be seen in impound. :-)
Variable compression!
