Here's a video to show those who think LSR is just "Stand on it and go straight!"
Yeah. It's seems Danny missed that memo. He sure does lotsa steering and pedaling!!

Seems to have found the left side of the course.... man the markers and signs go by fast at that speed.
Looks to me that he did good keeping it from running over the markers & the clocks. The Silver Island Valley must have been sucking instead of blowing that day.
Sid.
Does anyone know what happened to that machine? I think it was sold at auction. I was just curious if it had resurfaced again or if anyone knows where it is???.
I have asked that same question here twice and got no answers. The car was sold in 2020 and it seems to have fallen into a black hole. That car was ready to run so why has it not turned up at any event. Would someone buy a record setting streamliner that was more then capable of going 500mph and just stash it away just to look at. If i had bought it i would have run it somewhere by now.
Not sure DT's liner could go 500, he had 85% in it when he went 450 and the motors probably could not have made another run after he did the backup run. Going 500 would require around 37% more power and that is probably around another 1500 hp+ . That would be assuming that his combined horse power was at least 4000 hps. Still a great car and effort by Danny!

That was an exciting ride. :-)
He earned his pay on that pass.
Danny was the guest on the most recent Bonneville Wide Open podcast. I suggest you listen - there's a lot of good stuff to hear. (Stan: You do not need to download or install or sign in on Facebook or anything. Just click on this link.)

It appears that the mile markers were placed a lot closer together than they place them when I make my runs.
Thanx, Seldom!
Clicked on various keys and got the audio! Sure would like to see it, must be fun! Can't see how people spend a lot of time with just the audio. I've never seen a podcast and so I can't seem to appreciate listening to them. Musta been like the old ham radio days you had.
That was a good listen.

???
My understanding was that Danny's efforts were pretty much on his own dollars.

Very large stacks of them.
There was a very generous somebody who sponsored him for the last two meets who wanted to remain anonymous & also frequents the forum. You know who you are.
Sid.
It was me .

John,
Thank you for supporting Danny, and helping him complete his dream and journey. Much appreciated and very thoughtful.

In 2017 somebody else gave Danny some help . Don't know any details .
Danny sure handled the "Notch" a hell of a lot better than I have.
(My excuse? Just saying I'm inspecting the course from a wide number of differing degrees.)
Are we competitors or teammates? I think the latter. When I saw Danny get that beautiful streamliner going - it was wonderful. Mickey gave me a ride in his Mustang in 1968(?) showing me how to drive the International Course. What a guy. Danny is a real Thompson, too. It had to happen!
Every time some expert says the pucker factor cannot be increased one of this bunch proves them wrong!
Mine went up some just listening to Danny go by at the big end!
I was near the line as he got on it. That sound and the first green flag I saw and heard at Indy (I was near the line there, too. It was 1961) are never to be forgotten.
I was at the 5 mile mark in 2018 when he upped the AA/FS record. Let me tell you that 459 mph exit speed was a spiritual moment. The sight, sound and smell will forever linger in my mind!
On Danny's record run he was off the throttle for 5 seconds when he got crossed up . He felt the speed would have been 470 but for that . No traction control . Just good driving . I was in the back seat of the push truck . His mother reached back and squeezed my hand when the speed came over the radio . She was in a wheel chair because of a stroke the week before . She wasn't going to let that keep her away .
