Title: Trailer parking
Post by: deepindebt on June 18, 2024, 06:22:40 AM
Well here is a new one, i guess due to the rain last year, and all of the trailers that were parked in the hotel parking lots, the hotels will not allow trailer parking anymore in their lots.
This came from the USFRA news letter. Not a huge issue for us except,  the night before we leave for home we always haul our junk back to the hotel for an early departure the next morning.
Crazy if you ask me..

For the Rainbow- and probably Peppermill there is a large lot across the street behind the Chevron ( I think) where the 18wheelers park and they say we can park trailers. At least that was requirement last year.

At Speed Week '23, we were told to park our trailer on a relatively large lot between the Peppermill and Montego Bay.  We were staying at the Rainbow, which made parking the trailer remotely quite inconvenient.  As soon as we pulled onto the Rainbow lot, three security guys started walking towards my truck & trailer, telling me that I couldn't park the trailer at the Rainbow.   At least they allowed me to check in and haul the luggage upstairs before having to park the trailer on the designated lot as described above.

For some reason, the same security guys did not "run off" some competitors with trailer, who remained on the lot and wrenched, tuned, etc. their motorcycles throughout the week.

If there were any other acceptable options for hotels that allow for trailer parking, I'd love to tell the "Big Three" to pound sand, and spend my money somewhere else.

No fuel and No parking... No thanks.

I've always wanted to run at Speedweek,
but there are just too many ridiculous obstacles to avoid and too many hoops to jump thru to make me want to spend my money
doing it.

Seriously, why make it so hard for the racers who just want to race?

If you wanted to race you can, fuel is available or you can bring it yourself, always someplace to park. Just excuses.

Ditto.

It's in a small town once a year.  The racing is completely run by volunteers.  You might have to walk a block or two to get to your  big truck and trailer -- sorta like going to a ballgame.  You can buy gas in town and run it at the event.  You probably won't get a record your first time out, so no big deal.  Of course, with a bike, there's probably an open fuel record and you can get it with service station gas -- no minimums.  I guess you just might really not want to go.

We were told that it was because the hotels were having a real problem with homeless folks parking their RV's/trailers in the lots for extended periods of time, along with all the stuff they tend to bring with them. It became such an issue that they made the decision to ban all trailer parking.

No excuses,
Speedweek is very cool with all of the people, different vehicles, etc...
but an event that big brings everything else along with it (higher room rates, parking,...)

For you car guys, I understand that you gotta do what you gotta do to race,
fortunately for us bike guys, there is an alternative.

I will continue to run my bike at BMST and just spectate at Speedweek.
More racing - less hassle.
Best of both worlds.

Well I don't have an old goldwing in a 40 foot trailer that's hard to park so we'll run speedweek as long as they have one...  Spectators rooms are the same price as racers....
Can't remember the other reasons... but it doesn't matter... if you have a competitive bike and think you can take the record you run.... if not.... oh well... like Stan said, lots of classes....
The last time we wanted to run a lot of runs at speedweed we only made 13 or 14... some folks run more, but we have to cool stuff down the old fashion way between rounds...

My team had to use this option last year before we went home. if you have an enclosed trailer it probably would be fine but on an open trailer it was unsettling to say the least. Personal opinion, if faced with this again this year id rather have to head back to the salt and grab my gear, but know its safe then leave it across the street and worry all night

Maybe consider running at World of Speed. The rooms are available and they dont rape you on the rate. Less crowds, fewer wannabe's shorter lines and more runs. Plus, the weather is cooler and the air is better. Give USFRA a try.

If you were listening, he was specifically talking about SpeedWeek.

Oh I was. Just seems funny to me that you and so many others only consider SCTA events as being the only game in town. Real racers just want to race. Strokers stay home when they could be running their vehicles.

Might as well run with the best

                                  . . . and fastest.

Well you should never pass up any chance to run at Bonneville... they can be easily interrupted... the last decent track was 2021, we ran 3 meets that year.
So if you have a big trailer park it on the salt, or at the truckstop, or the access road... or the lot in town

Nope

I'm proud of the 7 SCTA records we set.  How 'bout you?

We stay at the Rainbow and parked across the street last year while we waited to run after the rain. The last time we had competed was 2012 and times have changed . It was just fine and we saw on inconveniences other than waiting for the light to cross the street. This year it may be only Thursday night.
As for fuel, I live about 10 miles from a VP supplier and am bringing what I feel we need. Those traveling from the east or south  Im sure will pass thru a city with a supplier and now is the time to contact them. Im sure they will love to sell you one of the fuels listed as legal by the SCTA. Good luck.

Why yes, I sure am proud of the records you set!?!?!?!?
Have you ever even been to an USFRA meet? Or are you another one of the misguided elitist snobs that don't really have a reason to dislike the USFRA, but dislike them just because someone 40 years ago told you to??? Maybe you can enlighten us as to what exactly the problem is....

ok AJR, it's a single record book, you set a record at Speedweek it's in the book, you set a record at USFRA WoS it's in the book.  Stan ran at Speedweek, I run them all.... as Jon said...
As I understand it trailers will be a problem at Wendover... all meets...

Crappy part is the Hotels/Casinos didn't try to hard, pretty easy to see who is the homeless compared to the racers, also an easy fix would be to get a parking pass with your Hotel registration, no pass no parking.

Just bringing this back to the top, how did the trailer parking work out?
Thanks

We stayed at the Nugett, parked on top level left in the morning.
