Back in the day they had a 125mph class. Should we bring it back and Why? or Why not?
What would the reason be for a 125 class
Maybe give us 50cc riders a target? :)
It would make sense if it was like the USFRA 130-150 club but is there the real estate to do it at Elmo or the open time to do it on course #1?

Increase particapation, Get younger racers with less available funds to get there feet dirty. And I'm told back in the day when they allowed it people had a lot of fun. We could call it the friends and Family class.
Running them out of the rookie line and limit to 1 or 2 passes an event would not impact the race at all.
If you increase participation that would mean more cars so of course it would affect the meet.
Don't forget about all of the safety equipment needed.

More participation, Increases the likelyhood the sport will continue into the future.
Take the last two meets and likely this weekends meet, 40-50 cars, getting 3-4 passes. I doubt adding another 5-10 cars would not affect anything.
If we don't get car count up the Guberment may not want us to play anymore.
I looked into running at El Mirage a couple years ago with a car that would have to go over two hundred to get a hat. There are a lot of stumbling blocks to having success, when you are not a member of the SCTA clubs. Would take a number of times coming from Olympia Wa. and a lot of money. Ed Fenn had a good idea of a rent a car, where you come down and drive his car to get your first couple of licenses. Then bring your car and trailer and crew and go for a record. Trouble is he wanted to do it with an old NASCAR racer. SCTA doesn't recognize NASCAR chassis as being safe

I would not worry about the "Guberment" as they are broke and always looking for money.
I would be worried about "insurance for the meets". I don't know about you, but my car insurance and house insurance jumped 50% this year. And in CA I am lucky to have house insurance as they are canceling people like crazy. A friend just got a bill for $17,500 for fire insurance only on his house, since he lives in a fire zone. And with the current fire in Ventura and all the houses lost there, it will not be going down in price.
In the old days as I recall when you were able to run a street car the limit was 125 mph, and you did not need a roll cage for that particular speed, but many things have happened since those days. Like the car where the door opened and the guys leg came out of the car and the door slammed shut on his leg, etc. I would think starting a class like you suggest would increase the insurance cost for everyone, so it would be better to try and get participation going a different route IMO.

Not sure a guest can set a record...
Why not join a club if you want to run EM?

I'm a member of a club and attend almost every event at elmirage for the last 12 years. Also a SCTA member and a I have bunch of rule books too.
I can see how 125 MPH Club with a modified street car would be a big thing back in the early days.
But a 125 Car Class would include a lot of totally stock cars today.
A "150 Club" could attract more entries with modified street cars and bikes. And all Time Only tech rules would have to apply. The "Club" would be recognition for a variety of stock and modified vehicles.
SCTA Club membership might be increased -- and that's a good thing. With new membership it would lead to increased revenue for the association. That would lead with more active membership as they could run under the SCTA member fees which would give them a financial break over a higher fee for one-timers.
As to tech, there could be requirements for the category with a break-out speed for competitors that were allowed to run under the new rules.
