Title: Fire suit
Post by: greencar on February 03, 2025, 03:34:28 PM
I am lookig to replace my fire suit, with a two layer Nomex suit. Am considering K1, Impact or Pyrotect. Does anyone have good or not so good with Pyrotect? Other suggestions are welcomed, not ready for a $2000.00 suit

OK, not trying to rain on your parade... but your skin is worth way more than 2 grand... and 6 weeks in a hospital trying to move it around.... Just saying...
I hope you can locate a good one cheap, but.....

I have an SFI-20 suit that I bought secondhand, lost a bunch of weight to fit into, and now appears is too short for me. If you're ~200lbs and maybe 5'10 or so it should be a good fit.

Stainless
Thank you for the reality check, a few thousand is nothing when things start to go wrong. So ignor the " no ready for a $2000.00 suit."
Thanks for the offer Fissionspeed but it is too big for me

Ed, there are several suits out there that are not as bulky as others... I would recommend you look at those, they are considerably more comfortable in tight cars... if you have lots of room then any SFI20 suit will work.  Buy one that fits and try not to outgrow it  :?

Greencar...Your first inquiry is for a 2 layer Nomex suit. To me thats a dash 5  good at Bonneville and the dry lakes to 175MPH unblown when worn with Nomex underwear.

You can purchase from PROFOX in Burbank California a dash 5 Jacket, Pants, and underwear for $450 Currently listed on their website in 3 colors.

I bought this combination for my grandson 2 years ago as the record in the class is under 175. They are nice pieces and sewn well and the medium fits him perfect.  Yes I had to RE-instruct the inspector when he told me it was not allowed. The specs are on page 27 of the current rule book and been there since 1975 when I started.

PROFOX does sell dash 15's for under $1000 and also dash 20's. ALL their race suits have the proper SFI rated tags which they could not have without all the proper certification.

As a racing family we do have a 15 and 20 suits but his stature is not what his grandfather and father is. If he continues to want to drive our car and the speed in the class exceeds 175 he will get a dash 15 that will fit him.

Our car has double the fire bottle protection....

Let the naysayers begin..........

. . . and for my annual message --

Don't buy black.  Standing around in a black suit just looks cool while its being brought up to temperature.

And a two-piece gets you a long time before you need to put the jacket on.  So you can get ready and jacket-off as long as you wish to get in.

Thanks to all for the imput
There are alot of options out there, so I am going to narrow it three USA manufactures to simplify things.
Hinchman, Impact and Simpson, on the fence between 1 and 2 piece suit, SFI 5, not black
Best
