Title: When should a circuit have a fuse?
Post by: donpearsall on February 18, 2025, 07:36:51 PM
I will be creating a bit of a complicated wiring diagram for my Hayabusa motor that has a MaxxECU. Looking at the stock diagram I see that it only has a few fuses, mostly for ignition, fuel pump, lights, main relay, etc. The rest of the circuits are hardwired connections to the ECU and other devices with no fuse. That's not many fuses. Is there a rule that determines what circuits need a fuse?
Thanks
Don

Don't reengineer it, follow the wiring diagram that comes with the MaxxECU.

When you say "rule", are you talking about a rule per SCTA, for example, or are you talking about something a bit less-formal,
such as a "rule-of-thumb"?

You probably know what fuses are for.  I don't imagine that adding some fuses are likely to slow your vehicle significantly.
For many years, I have believed that every motor racing team/project lacks money to do things like they would really like to.
For this reason, I suggest that you err on the side of caution, and try to protect your vehicular equipment from expensive
mishaps (such as short circuits).

Don, power circuits need fuses... signal circuits do not.
