Title: Do automotive relays need shock mounting?
Post by: donpearsall on April 11, 2025, 03:00:46 PM
How resistant to bumps and vibration are the standard block style relays? I will be using about 4-5 relays on my bike and worry that they could go intermittent with vibration.
I remember going over well over 200 mph and putting the chin of my helmet on the gas tank to get lower. The vibration scrambled my brain.

Do you rubber mount the relays or some other method, or is that not needed?

Thanks
Don

Use the golden rule, "if in doubt!"

I've replaced HD relays
But only for corroded contacts
2008-2010 killed the wiring harness, too.
Live,learn, replace.

You are looking for something like this... they are a sealed connection.... last ones I bought were Hella brand, and I bought sockets... started using them on the previous Bockscar 15-20 years ago.  I think the originals were Delco.  I think the Hella might be John Deere...  :?

You could use solid state relays if you are really worried about it.

Or- you could raid your local telephone central office for mercury-wetted magnetic reed relays.
