Title: Leppy Pass
Post by: rockracer on July 13, 2025, 06:59:00 PM
For 2025 speedweek it may be best to avoid Leppy Pass road.

Last night 11:30pm. I awoke to bright lights and a Nevada officer walking around my trailer,  radio'ing my plates in and trying to peak in my windows.  Minutes later he knocked on the door. I talked to him through the window  .According to him,  he was checking if anyone inside and that my vehicle matched a suspect vehicle in a missing person case.
Total bullsh't cause the missing person case is a white Isuzu rodeo not a brown dodge.  Also he's crossing state lines.

I'm guessing he's one of the police that broke up the car meet and was fishing for others.

Cops hassling people...
Not suprised, it happens all of the time.

We have camped at both the Bend and up on Leppy pass rd.
I prefer Leppy Pass.
Not a mud hole, less chance of getting stuck, the view is better,
and it's farther away from that filthy gas station.

Saw on the news last night, a passerby found a dead body at the silver island mountain range off the side of the road.
Might explain why the cop checked me out. He coulda just told me that instead of his line he used.
So I guess they were looking for his vehicle. Probably dumped there.
Wonder if it's tied to the missing person case a week or two ago.
I think I'll try out bend in the road for speedweek or KOA.

What a strange and small world we live in. 😧

I know this guy. Today I found out this is my aunts ex-husband.
  Went separate ways 17yrs ago.
Apperatly he was out gold prospecting,  somehow he was separated from his utv and was hiking back to his truck .15-20 miles away from his truck.  His UTV is still missing  . Not sure if alcohol was a factor but his utv could have been rolled/crashed or foul play.
This is why you have to let someone where you are going , especially on solo outings.
Here's the article with a pic of the utv in question.
Note this was in box elder county,  pretty far north up the silver island mtn range.

I jeep with a group that knows this area very well. In fact helped map historical mines and roads for the BLM.
I'm organizing a search for his utv,  just waiting to hear back from the sheriff's on how we can assist and locations of his tow vehicle and where he was found.  This search will involve Floating mtn Island as well.
If anyone wants to be involved with 4wd experience,  let me know. The more the better.

UTV was found by hunters stuck in the mud and recovered by Box elder county PD way out by Crater Island . 22 miles from his truck.
There's certain places you don't go without somebody else or another vehicle. At 72,  Sad he went out like this.
