Title: Austin Healey Sprite - Class?
Post by: lake_harley on June 07, 2026, 07:02:45 PM
I have accumulated 3 Austin Healey Sprites and having seen some low HP cars (stock VW and a Crosley) run at Blytheville I'm thinking it might be fun to join in. The Sprite I would consider bringing would be pretty much stock but I would like to build it to be something a bit more oriented to maximizing speed on the tiny 1100CC engine. For starters I'm thinking things like lowering it, a tonneau cover for much of the cockpit, and likely some mild engine mods, and I'd expect to need to add a roll bar or cage.

I sent a message to ECTA weeks ago and haven't received a reply of how the Sprite might be classified. Can anyone offer some guidance on finding out where to find classification information?

I see some competition rules on their website.
It looks like "Real Street" is for naturally aspirated vehicles and "Super Street" is for blown vehicles.
Beyond that, it's hard to tell what's happening there. Not super clear for sure.

That's pretty much what I saw when I looked on their website. What I saw looked more like guidelines and not rules since there wasn't any specifics about roll cage, tube diameter or modifications allowed to the car. There wasn't even any indication of breakdown by engine size.

I may try calling to see if I can talk to someone at ECTA. I certainly wouldn't want to spend a bunch of time and money prepping a car and it not be permitted to run at Blytheville.

I'm going to reach out to someone I know that might be able to help or at the very least, shake the tree for you. Is that something you would be okay with?

Sorry for my delayed reply.

By all means I would like to know more about the classifications. What I have in mind might bump me to a class where all I could accomplish is spend money with no chance of really competing, but at least I would have information to decide if LSR is something I want to pursue on an amateur level.

Thanks
