At Speed Week this year, will we be able to listen to "real-time" (or something similar) announcements on our vehicle radios, letting us know who/what is running, and how fast they go/went?  It's been a long time since I was a spectator at Speed Week,
but I think I remember hearing info like that on my FM band while watching from a safe distance, beside the timed mile.

Well Tall if you've been following along the answer is a definite "well maybe"
In the past Jon and Ron announced on FM.  They got fired last year and no one but the SCTA head shed knows the answer to your question.  I would suggest attending the drivier meeting and it that is not covered, raise your hand and ask the question.

Unfortunately, not all of us are so modern that we rely on (or even HAVE) smartphones in our personal "daily driver" cars.

If anyone here does learn about plans for the broadcast to be on old-fashioned (AM/FM) radio, I'd appreciate learning about this not later than 8/3/2024.  Thanks.

Good luck to all racers and their teams.  It looks like there won't be too much rain at SW this year.

Putting a signal on AM or FM ain't something I can do - no transmitter, no license (Not that I've ever seen evidence of an SCTA or BNI broadcast license, but maybe they don't need one).  I CAN put audio on Facebook and the website, and listeners with phones or laptops can hear it (whether at home or on the salt).

Sorry - that's the best I can offer.  I'll try. . .

I tried watching this.  Boring.

I just sent an inquiry on the SCTA website, inquiring about a live (i.e., FM) broadcast -- to learn whether it will be provided . . .
since I don't have a computer or smart phone in my "daily driver" car.  After I see the reply, I'll share the info here.

SCTA promptly replied to me.  Here's what they said:

Yes, the event is broadcast on the radio. Check at the entrance to the salt for the exact station number.

No offense to that guy, but I'm not going to "support" the guy that SCTA pushed into Ron & Jon's place...

Let me state that I don't know whether or not Ron Christensen will still be announcing.  We often don't talk during the off-season.  The last I heard from him (last autumn) he hadn't received his walking papers.

Don't get egg on your face when you ask about him and me.

I listened in today to poor audio(missing, dead air, volumn fading in and out), as ususal the on air guy is pretty uninformed about LSR and Speedweek. He misidentified cars(lakesters vrs. streamliners) for instance. More than twice he stated someone had qualified for a record using the 2 1/4 speed and at least once stated that the exit speed was a qualifier.

No, I am not interested in that job.

Watching the daily recap videos from Alex Talyor (Hot Rod Garage co host & Drag And Drive star), Ron is still on the FM radio.  At least that isn't totally ruined.  Although, Jon should still be there...

Have to agree with this statement. Thanks DW.
