Just wondering everyones option about the broadcast from the great white dyno. I have to say that it was much better when SSS was doing the broadcast. Not impressed with the stream this year.

Sadly Slim quit that a few years ago. I used to play it at work and employee's still ask for it.

Sounds to me like he got Fired!!!!

Okay - it's all YOUR fault.  I had a "chat" with Bill Lattin and Heather Black today.

They are pissed at me because when comments that were critical or negative about SCTA were posted on this Forum -- because I did not take the poster to task and refute said comments.  I was told that as an SCTA "employee" I should have defended the club.  As I obviously didn't do it to their satisfaction I became persona non gratis.

See?  Your fault.  Sheesh!

That argument aside, especially since it was old news, I offered to stream the audio anyway - for the good of the racing community.  Having heard (literally) hundreds of people asking why the heck I wasn't on the air - - I thought Black & Lattin would consider letting everyone hear.  I didn't even plan to talk - just get the stream on the air.

Lattin offered that they were streaming it, implying that was plenty.  I interrupted him to say "That stream isn't working today..." and that's when he stood up and told me that if I was going to interrupt him - that he was done with the conversation.  He got up and departed, followed by Heather.

I was also castigated, by the way, for the instances over the years when audio from the FM handheld radios could be heard on the air.  Guilty.  Mitigating circumstances?  Potential workarounds?  Other sins?  Ask for details.  I'm tired of typing.

And there you have the reasons that I'm not helping you folks enjoy SpeedWeek.  I'm very sorry.  I hope somebody runs for SCTA & BNI offices on the "Let's Get Slim Back on the Air!" ticket.

LSR is not a good spectator sport... I've watched and listened on and off since saturday. My only comment would be it would be nice to hear more times from the the 2 shorter courses. Since they are showing in the results way over 100 runs per day and the course #1 gets maybe 50 in 9 hrs there is a lot of down time. For the few cars we see and leave the starting line at least we can enjoy those.
Thanks to all the volunteers. A few years ago with all this heat very got runs. This time there seem to be a lot more..See you all the last week in September!

What I hate about the streaming is the footage of the Speed Demon crash was sold to some middle eastern "dirka, dirka" channels. 👳
If anything it should have stayed on the SCTA's channel.
Yes it's boring to watch and better on the radio.

It looks like it's too much work for one person to do properly.

Cudos to everything the guy has done thus far, but he needs some help.

Since LSR not a spectator sport, I think the SCTA should put more focus
into broadcasting the event on the internet.
Create interest, promote and build the sport, raise awareness, etc...

Also,
I haven't heard what the Enola Gay was serving for lunch since Slim got fired.
His audio was entertaining during the slow times.

@Desotoman why would you or anyone need to refute the truth the current stream is crap. SSS was fired for doing a great job granted there where times when he had problems but shit happens and I was never unhappy with his streaming. Bill and Heather need to get a grip and realize that firing SSS was the biggest mistake they ever made.

I was on the salt on Saturday and Sunday. The Enola Gay was serving pulled pork sandwiches and Catalina chicken in addition to the normal burgers, chips, water, Powerade, soda, etc.
Ron read the menu on the air right around lunchtime.

Do they stream the radio station broadcast or still have the guy at the start line.... I don't know because I go to the races and don't stream...

I really appreciate the announcing on the FM 89.3(?). The only issue is he would get distracted and sometimes not give the speed.

Example
On course 3 car #xxx thru the 2, Anyone missing a set of keys.

Many times, examples like this happened over the week. I suspect the guy is talking and someone walks up and hands him a set of keys or something like that.

Again I really appreciate the announcing and no way I want to seem ungrateful. But it is a little frustrating sometimes when you are miles away from the getting your time slip.
Btw I totally understand he cannot announce every time, I wouldn't expect him too.
Thank you!

First, I want to thank everyone involved in the radio broadcasts and/or streaming of information about
the racing at Speed Week, while the racing was happening.  The volunteers that provide the important
physical and logistical infrastructure for the event are, frankly, seriously underappreciated.  If more
folks would volunteer, some of the bothersome issues might become less bothersome.

I know it's not perfect; there's always room for improvement.  I did not go to Bonneville this year, but
have been there a few times.

Now that Speed Week is over, I look forward to seeing some info about the results.

To all the racers (and their team members, helpers, families, supporters, and fans), and also the spectators,
racing clubs and other organizations and sponsors involved . . . thank you, also, for your efforts.  We're all in this together.  (end of lecture)

Racefanwfo, I am a little puzzled in your reply. As I was replying to Rockracer who said the following and just wanted to make sure everyone knows what happened to Slim.

Quote from: rockracer on August 05, 2026, 01:11:09 PMSadly Slim quit that a few years ago.

As for "Refuting the truth the current stream is crap" no where in my post did I say anything about the current stream or the person doing it. Just wanted to clarify my post.

Now if you want my opinion on the past and current stream, here are my thoughts.

Slim was great on the mike, and he knew a lot of the people running, so he could add to the conversation about the person or car, and that comes from running Landracing.com, working the Porta Potty's at Bonneville, and running motorcycles at Bonneville for years.

Someone like that is impossible to replace, PERIOD

With that said maybe the only people who could have changed what happened to Slim, would be BNI and SCTA members and or possibly one of the Event sponsors if they complained. To my knowledge nothing happened.

So now with water under the bridge, we have a new person who is trying to fill some huge shoes on the mike, AND trying to video the event for us FREE. Enjoy it while it is free, as I am sure the plan is to eventually charge for the event. I heard the person doing the video feed that he could sure use a couple more people to help.

So with all this said and as much as I enjoyed Slim and would love to see him back, his time is now in the history books. I don't like it but I also cannot change the outcome.

I love the USA. How much longer will we be a free nation?

I've been doing some filming the past few years , and getting better at it.
Im now running 3 cameras at the starting line.
One to pan as they leave the line and another with a 300lens pointed down track, zoomed in.
Grabbed another just to put on Sid's car at the rear tail section. Mostly just so he can "study" a run and see how the car is doing.

Normally I get a wristband and stay out of the way but just behind the orange zero marker.
At Speedweek people were crowding around me and walking in front of the camera. The crowd kept moving out cause no line was painted..

Anyways we all got yelled at and moved back.
He said my wristband wasn't good enough.
So this next event I may be looking into a "press pass" just so I can get a bit farther out away from people.
