Larry,

I know you will overcome this incident and come back stronger and better.

I have known Larry and raced with Larry since early 1990's and he has always been one of best ambassadors of the sport. He loves the sport and he pays attention to everything that is going on. There isn't a speed that goes by on the salt that he doesnt look at. I still remember to this day the day he got into the 200 mph club. And when Guthrie speaks of one of his odd statistics he is right. That was a special day for Larry, and those of us who were there to share it with him. He is truely Landspeed Larry. When I had the website and I know Larry couldn't make the trip to Bonneville anymore I would personally call him and give him the updates on his bikes and riders after all their runs. Why? Because Larry deserved it, I even called him a couple times and said listen, I held the phone out to the great white dyno and let him listen to his bikes go by when Deluca and Knecum went by.  Get well Larry.

Now that we've got an address Nancy and I will mail a card to Larry.  Suggestion to all that might mail something:  In such a case as this -- a racer is hospitalized - I try to find and send one of the Christmas cards (or any, for that matter) that's got a photo of Nancy and me and a bike or two.  Usually it's from the salt.  Standard get well cards are fine - don't get me wrong - but I have the feeling that racers in general would enjoy seeing other racers.

Jack - thanks for the address, and for standing in for us at Larry's side.

I had quite a nice visit with Larry this afternoon, though I think we may have worn him out a bit. Steve Knecum had been by earlier in the day and Mark DeLuca visited yesterday evening after I was there. Larry was in good spirits and totally awake and aware while I was there. While his ribs are giving some pain, especially when he coughs (Sound familiar Karl & Billy?) he is basically on the "time heals everything" program for his torso. The primary issue remains his ankle/foot. Apparently no further surgery is anticipated at this time and as long as his circulation holds up and continues to improve (slowly) the doctors seem to be in the mode of waiting and allowing nature to do it's natural healing job.  Later this evening they are going to move him to a different facility, a rehab hospital that  is actually even closer to his house. No real indication of how long he might be there but, obviously, the address I gave yesterday is now "old news." Thought everyone might feel a little better just to see Larry give us all a thumbs up! I had the chance to read him some of the online posts from all his LSR friends and I know he greatly appreciates everyones' concern. Prayers and good wishes are working.

Great news and thanks for the update. Anyone that has rehabed from an injury knows that time is your friend and your enemy. It's your friend because many things heal over time. It's your enemy because while you are healing time seems to go bu so slow.

Larry, I do not know you but I feel for you. Good luck and fast healing.

Hey, Jack -- how 'bout a home address so we can send cards sooner rather than later?

I just came back from visiting with Larry. Another good day in the long slow healing process. You may have heard that last night they moved him to a different facility. He's now in a Rehab hospital and they actually got him up and worked on getting him a little more mobile - basically hopping around on one leg with a walker. Mostly they wore him out! Mark DeLuca also visited tonight and Larry has now spoken with Bill Warner by phone. Will check in on him again tomorrow. J

Karl,  Larry knows that the address is out there - it was his suggestion since they seem to move him somewhere new within the local health care system every day.  And Elaine is bringing a new load of cards and stuff to him every trip to the hospital!  ;)

Jack,
thanks much for your Larry updates, and please excuse my concern about posting his home address.
Some people are VERY sensitive about this.
(I am a moderator on a kawasaki board and had to do "clean up" on one noteable occasion)

Jack once again thanks for the updates. Is he going to get his computer anytime soon?

Fred,
I keep offering him a laptop to use but so far he says "not yet." Will try again this evening.

I talked to Larry a couple of hours ago. He is in good spirits and doing well. He asked me to tell everyone that he has not seen what has been posted, but has heard lots of people are saying nice things about him and lots of people are praying for him. We certainly are. He asked me to send his thanks to everyone and he hopes to be back online soon.

It's been a while so I thought it time for a brief update on Larry's situation. He's still in the Rehab Hospital just a couple of miles from his home and they continue to work with him. A meeting with his orthopedic surgeon today didn't really bring any new or definitive detail to either short or long term prognosis. His ankle remains stabilized with external structure and, at this time, the plan seems to be to "stay the course." At least no further surgery is in the immediate offing and his wound seems to be healing in a satisfactory manner. But, he's gonna be in the rehab hospital for a while longer. I visit every day and, as you might guess, he has his good days and bad but overall progress is being made. With some help he's staying on top of the LSR community and their activities and I know he's looking forward to seeing what goes on at Wilmington this weekend and Loring the next. And he says to, again, thank everyone for their well wishes and the flood of get well cards! When we know more you'll know more.
