Speed Demon is faster because they are smarter. Simple as that.

I will disagree with you on that statement. There are some very smart people who race at Bonneville.

Tom G.

Then why aren't they going as fast as Speed Demon? Marlo Treit has spent a lot of money, but where are the records?

George answered your question with this post below.

Beefy boy, your example of Marlo is fraught with error

Who are these smart people? Enquiring minds want to know.

Beef Stew, I get the feeling it has been a long time since you have been at Bonneville for an event. As in life many things have changed over the years. If you walk around the pits and talk to the people who run the cars and see what and how they are running you would not have to ask that question, but that is just my opinion.

This topic is about the Speed Demon, but in case you don't know, they are not the fastest wheel driven vehicle that has run at Bonneville.

I love the USA. How much longer will we be a free nation?

Asking questions is one's only way of getting answers.

The rational person lets verified facts form or modify his opinion.  The ideologue ignores verified facts which don't fit his preconceived opinions.

Good design . Body shape causes low pressure beneath the body and waste gate traction control individually preset for each gear .

Listed in order of importance: IMO
DESIRE, BRAINS, BALLS,  and the $ to make it happen

YMMV

The original poster asked "why is the Speed Demon so fast". You could write a 500 page book and it would be summed up in these two remarks. As far as Beefy Boys contentious tongue in cheek remarks, they were probably made after a few brown downers. Not to worry, I could name many,(100's) of BV racers that are not only smart but genius. Most are not running blown fuel streamliners. I'll always believe that Rob Fryvogal was on his way until his fateful accident.   To Speed George Johnson

The last speed I heard on the radio just before the crash was "432" and that was well before the 5 mile marker.

Interested in what the thinking is with the mechanical over electronic fuel injection ??
Run the engine at low/mid range r.p.m on electronics then transition to mechanical at high revs? You would get massive flow of fuel and the O2 sensors and ecu  will fine tune the mixture. SWAG.

if only it was as simple as that

doing the calculations on the averages of figgers provided show that thay have enough fuel on the electronic injectors alone  :-)

Social media has video of the Demon on a high tech chassis dyno, Maxwell Industries is doing it with Kenny and the brain truss being present. They state "we found a few things". That my friends is why the speed Demon is so fast. I would have never gotten a red hat unless I would have ran the Saltosaurus on a chassis dyno. It wasn't so much the performance I gained as it was the problems I discovered.

I'm hoping the salt holds up for World Finals. I have a strong suspicion that the Speed Demon crew is hard at making repairs and and tweaks to the AA combination in order to take advantage of the excellent salt. I'm sure that they want the absolute wheel driven record and conditions like this don't come along very often.

Credit needs to go to Ron Main who built the original Speed Demon before George took it over .

Rex Schimmer

Just got the latest issue of "Race Engine Technology" and it has a great story about the Speed Demon operation and answers many questions regarding why they are "So Damn Fast"!

Not much matters and the rest doesn't matter at all.

Interesting read on Diamondracing.net.....Seems they run at lower speeds on the electronic injectors, then switch on the mechanical system at higher speeds and use data from the o2 sensors to fine tune the mixture by backing down the flow from the electrics. 1drink
I`d never advocate drugs, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone...But they work for me.

done a search and could only find an article on Diamond Pistons site, however it did not mention anything about the fuel system,,

if its on another site can you supply a link please ??

They do a lot of testing and but alot laps down course. Because they have invested in what it takes to keep that car running. Yes they have a budget most would like to have but they are not the most expensive car/team running on the salt.

Jerry, you might let the rest of us know who might be spending a bigger salt budget than Speed Demon.... I can't imagine.... Yes I know there are nitro roadsters that spend $5k per pass, but George has gone through 4 motors in a meet... that's more $ than most of us can imagine spending in 10 years... per motor...
We all are aware speed costs money  :-o

I agree with you, nobody that I know about has the budget of speed demon. I don't know of any fuel team spending 5K a pass
