When we picked up the block after rod knocked the side out.

I asked does the cam fit? Because sometimes the block warps after welding. Oh yeah, it fits.

  Well it don't.

the block was ready to put the heads on when we decided to check if the cam would go in.
WE tried honing the bearings but no go.
So off with the harmonic balancer, gear drive head studs out with pistons and rods, main caps and crankshaft. Main caps back on and torqued  to 120 top sides 80.

We are getting good at this 1 hr :-D

Back to the 4hr drive to Montecito tomorrow and hopefully bore block for my large journal cam.

After staying the night, the cam journals were honed out enough for the cam to turn.

The crank rods, pistons, pan. gear drive and cam are installed and indexed.

Heads, flywheel, clutch and bell housing tomorrow.

Sounds like things are moving in the right direction! Good luck John!

There's always something. Top dead center was set and we needed to install a new timing tape on the dampener in the exact top dead center line on the tape for the alignment pin. Pin is made from welding rod and needed to be shortened and sharpened to align with the new tape.
then THE MSD magnetic pickup wheel has to be set. the threaded hole in the block that holds the bracket for the magnetic pickup was stripped [to much torque Troy :-) ] So heli coil time. We had the insert, tool and tap but had to look online for proper drill size for hole.
Finally got it mounted and aligned with pickup magnet on wheel.
The Greek coupler for blower drive pully also mounts to front of dampener so that was mounted.

So, heads tomorrow and hopefully the flywheel clutch and bell housing.

The motor, flywheel, clutch, bell housing and 1st Owens trans is mounted and installed in race car. Also ProCharger on 3/4in plate and drive installed.

Engine bay was cleaned up and rattle can touched up 1st.

Manifold on and throttle body installed and hooked up to intercooler pipe through window.

Tomorrow rest of trans inside of car, fuel injectors [16] and fuel lines. It's been 104 degrees so we knock off early after noon.

all that's left is Ignition, headers, drive shaft, bell housing and trans covers.

 Then fire up

All the above done but leak some where in hydraulic clutch system  :-(

Leak was a crack at the base of the fluid container. I had an extra one. Must have had that problem years ago and ordered two. We have a small electric fuel pump to prime the system, while doing that one of two fuel hoses that feeds the injectors was leaking like a lot.
filled it with water and blew pressurized air in it and bubbles all over.

I had extra hose and replaced both lines.

But wait there's more. No spark to plugs. Finally found a bad pin connection.

So, button up a few things tomorrow, bring car up in front of house for wi-fi signal
so our tuner can adjust the ECU from Tennessee.

Glad to hear that you're catching the gremlins before midnight!

Just wondering if the motor burbs and blows stuff back into sealed interior or what . . .

Had plenty of blow ups with no interior problems.
  Well so far

Jeez- after starting oil [22 quarts] oil looked like yellow milk. Pan off. water pump on water leaking from bottom of three sleeves. Normally take intake manifold and heads off. Let's try Bars leak. 3 bottles later in hot water no leaks :friday

Back to hydraulic problems we have a hydraulic throw out bearing which was leaking. so transmission has to come out we have 3 Owens and over drive units and is very heavy. WE are able to stick our cherry picker through the right-side door and move the trans back enough to unbolt the Hydraulic bearing, Easy fix O-ring pushed out Trans back in still no petal pressure fluid leaking out bottom of bell housing. Trans back out. Hydraulic line that goes to master cylinder leaking small O-ring at bottom of swivel fitting leaking, O-rinds in rebuild kit to small. Troy finds bigger O-ring at Napa auto parts [no charge] still leaks [I tell Troy who is doing 98% of the work inside car mounting and dismounting bolts with no complaints, that I can hear, you have a lot of patience I knew a guy who thew a wrench thew his Model A window with less grief.
To fix problem we E-Poxied the swivel fittings facing in the right direction.

Find out tomorrow if it works

We ordered a new throw out bearing from McLeod Monday and it arrived early the next day so we installed the new one. Fired up the engine everything good.

All loaded up and leaving for Bville in a few minutes.

Two blowouts and a leaking rim on last spare [ had to stop every 1 & a half hrs. to fill back up to 80 lbs. we made it to Bendover at 5am. 6am Utah time. A few hrs. sleep, 4 new tires and out to the salt flats.

Sat Troy took off but engine stopped after about 10 sec. Short in ECU, Donnie Cummins [Rep for Holly] fixed it on Sunday.

Monday Troy took off like a bat out of hell spinning tires in 1st and 2nd at no more than 35% throttle, hooking better in 3rd but still a bit loose not gaining much rpm in 4th so shut down.

Data log showed 250 mph and inside video showed shut down at 1 and a half miles from start.
and loss of fuel pressure from 80lbs to 40lbs. Engine making great power to that point.
Water in oil [ short cut with Bars leak didn't last] so time to pack up.

Back in shop a leaking injector seal was the cause of pressure drop.

Very dangerous situation as could have caused a fire are an explosion so good job on shutting down fast Troy

Data log shows 37 sec, 1 & 1/2 miles from start 250MPH 43% TPS 41 lbs. boost 111 degrees manifold temp then loss of fuel pressure [and leakin gas from leaking injector O-ring discovered later]. Also data shows air fuel ratios going very lean from lack of fuel pressure.

If we were running a turbo there could have been an explosion as the turbine glows red hot
but our belt driven centrifugal blower doesn't.

Data log shows a lot of spinning in 1st and 2nd and Troy in and out of throttle a bit in 3rd but no wheel spin towards end of shut down.

 So happy about that?

 Jeez always something though.
