Mate, that sounds ideal in every respect & camping with "grass". I've roughed it before but Mt Ive really sucked.
How much run distance is there?
  Sid.

What was wrong about MT Ive?

3 miles end to end
High enough the carb guys will have to rejet about 2 sizes  ,

heard today the results of one of the wettest weeks in 100yrs for several states including all it would seem bar the L omeo area has left the lake with only a little water at the deep end , going up for a look this coming weekend

Last time I was at Mt Ive it was a dirt dive with sheering sheds & a water tank with a fire under it, has the "old sheiler" Hilton'd it up some since then?? & just remember here, I'm a Newsheeplander!

Elmo & Omeo, kinda has a ring to it.
Seems like Victorian boys are the ones out doing all the work here. Are the NSW & Qlanders looking for some where up nth or are they still trying to drink the pub dry?

New owners since you were here i would think , there is better lodgings at Mt Ive , and a simple camping with hot showers still at the shearers quarters.or cold shower at the lake edge camp

Qld guys are looking at a large claypan , it has a lot of potential for a Sept-Oct meeting (dry season)

So you can actually camp on the hill at the salt now??

Dr G and quite a few other do,suppose its our version of the bend in the road,      i prefer my hot shower at the shearers quarters :-D

I have a couple of reasons that I prefer the lakeside camp. It's 5 miles back to the shearers camp( or as it is known ,the "members camp") that's ten miles everyday on the worst road in the world that I can do without, it breaks things , fills things with dust and uses fuel. The members camp is stony ground, it's sand at the lakeside. there's a couple of people I enjoy the company of at the lakeside and it's the other way round at the other joint.

I can go without a hot shower, in fact if you choose the right time of day the showers at the lakeside are REALLY hot, but seriously a cold shower isn't the worst thing in the world.....takes me back to year 9 in the boarding house when the hot water service was awol for six months, right through the middle of winter...........

But the best thing is it's a short walk from the canteen, so you can have dinner and then walk back to yer quarters, in the morning you can jump on a pushbike and be on the salt in 5 minutes while everyone else is pulling their hair out in the on-ramp traffic jam and blowing dust off their vehicles, that's a sh1t place to be when you could be soaking up the ambience with a little bit of quiet to yourself and the sound of bike tyres crunching the salt.

I wish I was there right now.
Few understand what I'm trying to do but they vastly outnumber those who understand why...................

I hear ya Goggs, the salt is like heaven & the road to Ive is hell.
We would eat dirt to get back there at night, to be too late for dinner & have the option of a cold shower or nothing. Then to get back up before the sun & breakfast, eat the dirt road again back to salt to do it all over again. That wore down the best enthusiasm after a few cycles. I seem to remember it being pretty dam cool at night too.
I like the sound of hanging at the salt.
