The word through the grape vine is, cancelled due to standing water on the salt.

Maybe they need a later in the year date. This is a real bummer for all of our down under racers.

Yep!!! That would definately be called standing water.  It's unfortunately the nature of our sport.
The international teams hurt the most in times like this.  I know there is a comp coupe from NZ over there now, any more we
know of??

Fireman Jim cancelled his flight, was going to use a borrowed motorcycle.  Perhaps there will be more guests at the wedding.
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.

Another motorcyclist is on his way, and i met some of the international 36hp challenge guys yesterday as they were assisting the setup on one of the Aussie cars , I feel a lot more for the guys that have made the effort to be here than the personal dissapointment at the cancellation.

How's the situation around you now with the floods Greg?
Few understand what I'm trying to do but they vastly outnumber those who understand why...................

I truly feel bad for you guys and gals down there. I know heartbreak myself, we just lost most of the trees on a mountain in town where our newest mtn trail are. Several hundred acres turned to moonscape

Sorry to hear this.  Maybe it is time to find a dirt lake for an alternate site.  Sorta like El Mirage.  Then you can do some racing if the salt is flooded.

There's gotta be a heap of those down there.
They used to run 90 Mile Beach in NZ, way back, haven't heard it mentioned in a long time.

Were dry but for several days could not go anywhere , much more fortunate than those with water through there houses

Alternates , we are looking at several , there is a large clay pan in the north that shows promise for a sept meet and a small lake in the south east that look like it could become a El Mirage type venue

Lake Omeo looks like a plus the fact that it has roads around it. How big is it & who does it belong to would be the next questions?

Local town run it but its government land , had meetings with both and all enthusiastic about a source of income for the town
has local rec reserve at one end with rest rooms and showers, grassy camping area .
pretty much down to forming a track, (grassy tussocks at the shallow end to level/remove ) and organise a date

The surface is different to El Mirage its a very hard clay that does not seem to shrink like most clays as it drys, surface cracks but not gaps between the blocks, i have ridden on it once and driven across it a couple of times, in January the surface at the bottom of the lake would have run a meeting as it sat

The country around Omeo is interesting.  The highest mountains in AUS are not far away.

Mate, that sounds ideal in every respect & camping with "grass". I've roughed it before but Mt Ive really sucked.
How much run distance is there?
