Apparently she is a public speaker and big advocate for rural Australia.  The sample video on her website talks about driving through standing water on roads. She probably jinxed herself interviewing on that subject.  Nothing on that site mentions her 'hobby' of LSR though there are shots of her in a streamliner on Facebook.

Ed Shadle and his crew sent a press release to me - and I've got it posted on the home page of this site (www.landracing.com).  It's about Valerie and a bit of other stuff, too.  Go ahead and read it, okay?  I don't think I'll be able to post it - a long Word document - but I did want all to be able to see it.

The North American Eagle™ (NAE) team in Spanaway, WA is joining forces with 2X motorcycle land-speed record holder Valerie Thompson. "I feel truly blessed to be given this opportunity, it's something I have dreamed about since competing at my first land speed racing event in Bonneville. Since the team is based in my home state of Washington, I feel like I'm going back to where it all started," says Valerie Thompson.

Thompson grew up in Tacoma, WA and now lives in Scottsdale, AZ. She's set to pilot the North American Eagle™ and pursue another prestigious record. "We're expecting Valerie to set a new record as the world's fastest female racer when she eclipses Kitty O'Neal's 1972 record of 512 mph," says NAE Driver/Project Manager Ed Shadle. Test runs begin this summer.

Thompson and the NAE will be a powerful force. The NAE is a 50,000 horsepower converted  F-104 Lockheed Star Fighter jet, once flown by the most famous test pilots of the 50's and 60's. This jet-powered car is designed to travel over 800 mph. Thompson is a Team Owner/Pro Motorcycle driver who has competed in the All Harley Drag Racing Association (AHDRA) and the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA), drag racing's largest and most elite series. Shadle adds, "Valerie has demonstrated her skill as a land-speed racer by setting records at the Bonneville Salt Flats and campaigned her own Pro Stock motorcycle in NHRA events." Thompson replaces motorcycle racer Leslie Porterfield who stepped down due to health issues.

The NAE team also strives to eventually beat the world land speed record, which the U.K. has held for 15 years, after successfully running a jet-powered car at 763 mph. The NAE team, which includes American and Canadian engineers and former military personnel, says it's time to bring the record back to North America.

To request an interview with Valerie Thompson, contact Eric Studer, 214-676-3860. Photos and video of Valerie Thompson are available at: http://valeriethompsonracing.com/index.html
To meet the North American Eagle™ team and tour the jet-car hangar, contact: Susan West, 206-818-6945. Photos and video available at: http://www.landspeed.com/

This is a different story.  I think this lady was planning to break a 1000cc streamliner record atLake Gairdner.

Make that "which the UK has held for 29 years". Richard Noble set the record with Thrust2 in 1983 until Andy Green's first record of 714mph before taking it to 763mph. 8-)
