If I were to go across the country and race at different LSR events what would I be looking at for entry fees and or association fees required to be able to run at the following events:

Mojave Mile,
Texas Mile,
Ohio Mile,
Loring AFB,
Bub meet,
USFRA,
Cook shootout, car vs. bike.
DRLA

I already know what is required for entry fees etc. to run at El Mirage and Bonneville.

Any help appreciated,

Tom G.

PS. If you would rather PM me the information that would be fine.

Ohio Mile is $200 entry per event, plus $50 a year for ECTA membership. They will give you a half-year for $25.   http://ecta-lsr.net

Loring is $250 per event, and I don't think there is a membership fee.      http://www.lta-lsr.com/

USFRA is $400 + $40 membership.      http://www.saltflats.com/

its been three years since I paid an entry fee at bub, but its getting up there.
($480-500?)

you do have to belong to AMA which is 39 dollars a year. I keep that up current.
membership includes towing for motorcycle, tow vehicle and/or trailer.  anything.
maybe even a big motor coach.

if you can ever get to the AMA Museum in Ohio,  it's worth a stop.

Dean and Franey,

Thanks for the response, much appreciated.

Now does anyone know what the entry fees are for the other venues?

Mojave Mile,

Texas Mile,

DRLA,

Cook shootout, car vs. bike, this one really does not matter since I could not afford to run at it, but it would be nice to know if one hit the lottery.  :-D

Fred,

Thanks. I went to each of their websites but cannot find out anything about the entry fees. So unless someone else replies with something different I will go with what you have posted.

Thanks again for the reply,

Tom G.

Ha Ha Ha, good one Stainless, but where did I say anything about driving?

Seriously since I was asking about different venues I just included them since I don't know what they charge for an entry.

Thanks for the chuckle,

maj

DLRA AU$375 pre entry and 150 extra late entry

much higher costs in the last yr or so  ,  and the need to improve facilitys  has made the price hike necessary

From the chats on these forums the last couple of years I got the impression that Cook's Shootout would cost a competitor up around $5,000. But my feeble memory is probably way offbase...?

As I sorta remember hearing bandied about -- base costs that have to be covered at a Cook Shootout for cars is something in the low $40K range - or, in other words, if four entrants -- each must ante up at least $10,000++ just to get in the door.  Remember that this is only hearsay -- I haven't ever asked Mike what the "real" number is, nor whether there's a set fee so that he can (he hopes) make a profit if enough vehicles enter).  As for bikes -- I think I've heard that it runs $5k/bike, and that Top 1 Oil is kind enough to pay the total fee so that entry is more affordable to all entrants.

If nothing is confirmed -- use those numbers and you'll probably be in the right order of magnitude.

I think Top One Oil has been covering the FIM fees for all bikes wearing their sticker at the meet.  But I think the bike guys still ante up for Mike's expenses.  This year would have been about 5K since a  lot of bikes were planned.
So far I think over the last 8 years of racing Mike has come out almost a dollar ahead... once

This is all pretty bad news for me, as a seasonal construction worker I simply do not have the money for fees like this. I thought the ECTA fees were sky-high at $200-$250 a crack, but I guess they are the cheap ones.

I have participated in drag racing in the past with both cars and motorcycles and I thought LSR would be fun to try, but looking at this I wonder if I would ever be able to afford it.

I can go drag racing at a local 1/4 mile strip for $45, and they pay out prizes each week to various competitors up to $800! LSR racing for some reason costs 5-10 times as much and pays out zero. The same drag strip has dial-in runs and grudge nights where they will let you run and time your vehicle for $5-$15.

You can go vintage roadracing at a fee of $95 for each event, and road-racing is as expensive to run and dangerous a thing you can do on wheels.

NO, I am not interested in racing for the money, but I am not interested in giving money away without good reason. A lot of land speed records have been made at speeds I have seen done on the street or quarter mile, so unless I can do something that can not be done or tested there then there is not much sense in paying extra to do it.

I see the ECTA recently had an event with 175 entries, that means they are taking in $35,000-$43,000 dollars.

Can anyone give me a breakdown on what that $40K is spent on  each event?

Looking at road racing and drag racing in comparison, it seems like there is something either being run inefficiently with LSR, or someone is lining their pockets?
