Could someone please let me know who remembers what to do to build one for Fuel, idle only, cacklefest deal?.
I've got a very nice WE55 3-5/8" block, crank and cherry 354 heads. I realize alum. rods wont go in from the top & thats not a problem.
Thanks for your time & help,,,,and again, this is not for racing or will it be leaned on.

It's been a long time (1968) but a couple of things I remember are; grinding reliefs (or chamfering the bore) to clear the valves, replacing the stock oil pump pickup with a Milodon or Donavan piece and putting a vented plug (also Milodon or Donavan) in the oil passage in the block at the pump output to convert to full flow oiling. If you are referring to the tuneup, I haven't the foggiest.

Removed by me because I posted before checking my Senior memory  or my early Chrysler facts.

If crowd entertainment is the goal flames out the exhausts are required. That's tune up related.

It matters not which block you use. A blowup will drew uncontrolled crowd reaction.

That way a block that could be a racer wouldn't be sacrificed.

Kind of my feelings. You have a '55 Windsor block, I guess. Or you could sleeve a 331 to the 300 size. Or destroke it using a Pontiac crank like I said before. But if it's just to lite the candles, burn some Pop, and make noise, Why not just take the easy way out and use a 331? Sell the 300 parts to some racer who needs a D motor.

No need to move along, you're breaking the boredom.

Do you have any pictures to show us?

And I seem to remember the cams were different 331 vs 300/354 vs 392. We used stock forged rods, shot peened but that was a blown gas motor. I think the fuel guys used Don's boxed stockers.

Al Eshenbaugh's  D/FL #36 that just started running this combination.  He has late model heads but he is running the  Windsor block---

The tappet bank angle is different between low-deck and high-deck Chrysler Gen-1 hemi/poly engines, there are 6 different cams as to OAL and lobe placement (in addition to different grinds) and each is unique. There are also different nose drive methods.
Dodge 241, 260 (a.k.a. 259), 270: 65 degrees
Dodge 315, 325: 58 degrees
DeSoto 276, 291: 64 degrees
DeSoto 330, 341, 345: 60 degrees
Chrysler 301, 331, 354: 61.5 degrees
Chrysler 392: 59 degrees

Rich that crank must have been Pontiac's 1969 303 displacement ---that was not a factory production option---Trans Am Racing eng crank that had a 2.84 stroke that produced 303 displacement.

I'm with Rich.  Grind and fill the ID #, let them worry about the displacement.  When was the last time they checked displacement at a cackle-fest?

i am no math wiz. But when I put the stock 331 bore of 3.815 with the 55-56 pontiac's stroke of 3.250 I get 296.73 cid. a .040 clean up bore comes out to 303 inches. Correct?

SPARKY

:-D   your math beats my math lol

the 326 crank would be much easier to come by

I keep trying to get there with the "killer" LS heads

326 has a 3.750 stroke. Same as a 400. Not much help. I think it's pretty much a 55-56 Pontiac 287-316 crank for this deal.
