Some thoughts on this new rule.

This rule was discarded at the 2014 rule meeting when it originally specified vehicles with non-OEM hoods such as roadsters/modified roadsters, modified sports, etc. in addition to Special Construction vehicles.

The rule does not need further clarification. You are free to add doors where you see fit. It does specify access to the engine compartment, by inference that means at a minimum two doors, one left side one right side to me. The list above details many areas that fire doors could be installed. See, you guys have figured it out already. The rule book does not need to be picky/picky about all the rules. You are a creative group and should be able to build your race car to the safest possible standards without hand holding. If your hood needs to be undone by a means other than OEM latch you may need the fire doors.

Rich says it best, the rule book is minimum requirements. If you need more safety add it on.

Good luck,

Thanks for the input Dan, how do you interpret the chassis part of the rule or is that just the chassis in the engine area?

Sumner

Yes, the chassis in the engine area. I see no need for access to a part of the chassis where the front axle lives.

Holy smokes! The rule changes on the SCTA site include a change that looks like road race leathers are now legal!
I have no idea what I'm doing... but it seems to be working!

On the Treit and Davenport streamliner the hoods have to be released to be raised. This is NOT practical in an emergency situation.

Jim Hime Put two doors ovr each engine. They can be opened by pushing down on the door. On the second run for the car there was

a fire in the engine compartments. The doors in the hood over the back engine put the fire nozzle directly on the flames.

The instant the car was stopped and the extinguisher arrived the fire was extinguished. Les is an experienced driver and he had no

idea that there was any fire. The firewall fits very well. No indications in the cockpit. The access doors killed the fire immediately.

Great!  Before, I had two sets of leathers but only one was legal.  Now I've got two legal sets and just hope to be able to use one of them.

BTW, both have shrunk around the waistline over the winter.  Can't figure it out.  :?

This sounds like Diamon blocks will not be legal in V4 as they were not cast  by Ford but German and Russian blocks would be legal as they were cast in production car facilities.

johnneilson

no changes to V4 and V4F, you must read section 2.A.1 completely.
Also, check the V4 supplement guide.

I believe that so far the Diamond blocks are technically not legal. But that they have been and are used without being questioned. As always nobody really cares what I think. the person listed in the rule book is a better source for a ruling.

Diamond blocks weren't cast at Ford's Rouge plant?  They weren't sold as service parts?  I don't see the problem.
