Hi all, I've looked and looked to see if this has been answered before and I can't find anything so here goes,

The rule in the 2021 book (7.G) is:

"Bikes in these classes must have either a full APS fairing or comply with two of the following requirements:
-Two, three or four engines.
-Engine displacement greater than 3001 cc.
-Seat base lower than top of rear tire with the rider seated on the bike.
-Design items not permitted in the Modified Production class.

-Center hub-steering"

My bike is running in Omega engine class with a Tesla car motor and a stretched and raked frame, and I'm not confident I'm going to have the time and resources to get a full APS fairing together in time for speed week 2022. Obviously I can't run in Production, Modified Production or Streamliner, so that just leaves Special Construction.

My question is this: Do I really have to make sure my seat base is lower than the rear tire to be eligible to run in Special Construction? It seems pretty cut and dry in the rules, but I want to be double sure before I start chopping the frame to make that possible. Seems like an odd rule, but if that's how it is then that's how it's gonna be!

Thanks in advance and my apologies if this has been asked already or if it's a simple case of RTFM!

I don't think there will be any question that your bike is an "A" class bike.  Modified Production does not permit the main frame spars to be modified, and the engine must from the same manufacturer as the frame. I have yet to see a Tesla motorcycle! (Section 7F) I agree the wording in the "A" class designation is not clear, as it states you must have two of the following items, but does not mention that two of "design items not permitted in modified production class" also make it "A" class in my opinion.

I agree, you would need to use a production electric bike to run in M... by the definition of your donor mods, it looks like A to me.  But beyond that the first line in SC says for purpose built race bikes...

The donor bike is a 2000 ZR-7 that's going to be stretched 18 inches in the middle of the frame and raked an extra 12.5 degrees. Front end will have 38 degrees of rake and 183mm of trail.

I don't see anything but SC in your project

Ah, thanks both, interesting interpretation Koncretekid, I hope that'll fly because it'll make my life easier. ;) All I want to avoid is accidentally building a bike that can't run in any category. I will plough on for now and see what the 2022 rule book says on it. May be a non-issue!

Thanks again for the input

Contrary to some's beliefs, the SCTA will let qualified vehicles run for Time Only.  Vehicles such as motor homes, NASCAR racers, etc.  As I understand it, most are given a speed limit, all have to meet the safety standards that would apply to similar vehicles.

Some idiot (I'm not calling names 'cause I don't know) has thought it was a good idea to start a former NASCAR class.  Yeah, that oughta work.  What engine sizes?  Which year?  All together?  A thru D classes?  1948 Hudson in same class as a 1982 Chevy?  None of that is necessary as a few already can run under the above paragraph.

Wanna trophy?  I bet the SCTA could send you one with your time and date on it as a revenue-producing activity.

Disregard Stan's tirade... you are not asking for a class of your own.... You are basically building a custom frame using components from a motorcycle.  Custom frame and one of a kind motorcycles race in SC.  If you want, you can send an inquiry to the MC SC tech chair listed in your rule book.  The requirements to meet 2 things is to move a bike from M to A.  If you build a custom frame, you are A

Gotcha, loud and clear, thanks again! Will drop the tech chair a line for ass-covering purposes and report back if he has any pertinent info to share.

A and M frame do not matter, put third wheel on bike it's a sidecar. If you build a race frame  it's a class A bike. If I enter a TT2 Ducati in Speed Week it's a class A bike because it not a production bike (not enough bikes made). Class A come from the AMA days and means that it is a pure race bike. It does not mean it altered .

Well boy am I glad I sent that email!

Since it's such a new category there are gray areas still, and there was a discussion to be had about whether the EV drivetrain was legal outside of the S & SCS classes, the upshot of which is that yes, it is indeed good to run, but I'm glad we got that figured out now and not on the salt. Would probably have given me a heart attack!

And yep, you're all right about the frame putting it in the Special Construction class.

Thanks for the input!
