I have been watching several vids about electric motor driven "turbos" (really centrifugal superchargers) and they are pretty interesting but something that is not addressed in the SCTA rule book, specifically section 4.ff, which calls for superchargers to be mechanically driven by the engine or driven by exhaust gases, turbo chargers. This section obviously would prohibit electrically driven superchargers. After looking at the online info, this type of supercharging could really be a great application at Bonneville. It could be applied to almost any NA engine without expensive SST headers, special cams, extensive electronic controls to make the engine live with a turbo setup. The systems that I looked at did not make big boost, 5-6 psi, but the also did not take any power from the engine to make that boost, so the actual power increase was a simple increase proportional to the increase in inlet pressure, i.e. a 5 psi boost would provide an approximate 33% power increase at the engine output shaft. Yes there is added complexity because the system requires more electronics but the idea is really inviting and probably more controllable that adding a big shot of N02 or nitro.

Just a thought,

Not much matters and the rest doesn't matter at all.

You can bet he first one to turn up on a race car will run in blown class but nitrous & nitro only put you in fuel class.

Electrically driven superchargers have been discussed in rules committee meeting along with CAS ( Compressed Air Supercharging ) systems. It will happen eventually. Keep pushing the idea through a rule change request. It's the only way to move the needle.  8-)

. . . or start 20 or more classes across the range of Car classes.  Gotta catch up with the Motorcycles!

(Don't the CAIR (Compressed Air) roadsters already allow this?)
