There are photos on the Petersen digital archive of a tanker #260 E/L (same car?) out on the salt and there are some close ups of the Drury car and crew.

Am I the only one that is offended by the term "tanker"? To me that's a trailer that carries some sort of fluid down the road being hauled by semi tractor.

I'm with Kiwi.

To me, it's always sounding like something someone uninformed would use.  But it's popular on some coasts and age groups.

I grew up in the 50-60's with words belly tank or tank when refering to the vehicle running in the Lakester class as 99% began life as an auxillary fuel tank of a WWII airplane. I have been shown when my "hard headedness" rears up upon hearing it used with an additional "er" that indeed the extended er word was written in automotive periodicals of that era.

As I see and hear it, the extended word is normally heard outside of the confines of North America mainly from a very large island that ended up posing as a Continent with only one Country on it; very senseless in my opinion but not in my job specs. The word seems more on those who speak the "Kings English" than those who speak and reveal in the use of American "slang". It is also spoken by other "Islanders" even tho they may be smaller in different hemispheres but many have come to understand the word is shorter by a few letters than they once thought.

Since I was was lucky enough to be born and raised in what was known as the hot bed of racing, especially for the Speed Trials kind, I don't need to act like I was a part of it but was a part of it just by association and dumb luck.

It's nice to see the Holmes and Kugal names on the tank shown above and glad it see a photo of it here.

We're restoring it to 1964. It won't be running for records.

Will it run at any event or is it for display only?

We want to bring it to Bonneville for pictures only. Maybe use it as the tow vehicle.
