Let's see.  I think I'll build a car to run at Bonneville.  I'll get a Rule Book and spend lots of time and money and do it my way.  I'll put an engine in it that's not competitive and/or the wrong size.  Silly me!  I can still run it and see how it goes . . .  or let's get a new class for me.  (I'm sure that's what Nascar would do.)  I gotta have a record!  If that doesn't work, I'll get a motorcycle -- there're about 200 open records at Bonneville and El Mirage!

(Whatta if I just change the seat upholstery to green!)

Why isn't a Windsor legal?  It fits the year break.

A Boss 351 with stacks/Toploader/9" is what I would have liked to build.  But, the class eclipsed 200 before I ever found a core engine...   cromag

Referring to running a clevor. We were not allowed to run a Windsor with Cleveland heads. Two different engine family's was a no go.

I agree with Stan badly written rules, class was intended to bring old cars back if you want to run a sbc than run with the big boys.

Sad but very true IMO. If they wanted old Roadsters like I own to run in the class and be competitive, they needed to address the body rules also which was neglected. How can a car like mine in my avatar be competitive with a roadster built on the ground? It cannot. The rule was only an engine rule. The rule should have addressed the way roadsters looked back in the day, if it was really intended to bring cars like I own back to the race course. JMO.

Stan, it is what it is. Your "K" engine class will be allowed when someone finds an old 221" Ford motor, puts a 302 crankshaft in it and runs it on one cylinder, after they lobby the SCTA for years and get enough votes. That is how it works and Ron Benham (with all due respect) was a master at doing it. JMO.

Couldn't agree more, unfortunately that ship has sailed, all we can do now is beat em or join em, either way its going to take lots of $$$$$$

Hey All,
I does appear that running a Cleavor (Windsor Block w/ Cleveland heads is a good legal combination for the C/AIR Class so long as you keep in mind the year restriction.
Sorry for any confusion...
UPDATE... Upon further review it has been brought to my attention that in fact a Clevor would NOT be legal in the C/AIR Class...

A Boss 302 was a factory offered Clevor in 1969 and 1970...

This iron roadster class is a perfect location for a stock block Ford flathead V-8 class as well. Would certainly add to the opertunity to get all thsoe old roadster back out on the salt.  :-)
Working in the shop I use the 'F' word a lot. No not that word these words Focus and Finish go Fast and Flathead Ford!

Well guys we all know there aren't any "old" roadsters coming back to Bonneville no matter how many old motor classes they come up with.
I think Flatheads already have a class in roadsters Ronnie...

Yeah, Stainless.

What about all the guys that are building Roadsters with V-8 60s?  And wanta run Fuel.  And Turbos.  And with Rear Engines in them.  And Touring bodies.

Just reading the latest SCTA minutes and they're debating changing their motto to "A Class for Every Ass".

I do not understand why it matters, to expand classes except, maybe to the inspectors and rule book writers. Why not get new people involved with all the "what if I want to run with this new idea"? Why is anyone opposed to any new class that may bring new people into the sport and bring new generations. We all complain about the age of the current membership. I was at the last SCTA banquet and there were very few young people. For any of this wonderful pastime to continue and to carry on with new blood we have to be more inclusive and expand the number of people to participate, support and get involved with running and crewing and bringing family and friends to join us old, old, old codgers that remember when there were few classes and fewer people enjoying those Bonneville sunrises and the dusty Saturdays at the lakes. Just make it as safe as we can and find ways to get more people to participate, including new classes and new ideas. With the way the rolls are diminishing the 70 and 80 years olds cannot be much of a future........

Been there, seen that! And now I can say I participate, with my kid and his kid, J.R...........

Yeah! -- Let's run what you brung!  (Kinda like NASCAR - Drive that Volvo right on up.)

We've got 100s of classes.  Wanna play?  Take your choice!  Set a goal in over 100 categories, not petition to make one for you.

Yaaa!  I'm the record holder!

What was the record?

Oh, they didn't have one.

How did you get the record?

I just bitched about how it was set up until they made a class just for me.  (My friend wants to play, too.  I told him to change his set-back to 30% and petition for a new class.)

I strongly agree... but there are already roadster classes that cover every engine but 1 liter and less... oh, "most of those guys go to fast for what I want to build" should not be a class forming requirement... and vintage and classic and current and sports.... the problem is the investment to run any car...
OK I have an idea that would make money for the organization.... have run whatcha brung classes with safety requirements based on speed...  and everybody entered gets a trophy with their speed on it if they meet the safety requirement.... Kinda like 130 and 150 clubs... with trophys...

No we don't need anymore classes, we have enough now. Just because someone what's a new class does not mean we need to create one.
