belt vs chain drive primary OPEN

one for the bike people , Harley and some brit bikes , divorced trans to engine primary drive , ( OPEN PRIMARY )  belt vs chain . the ones ive seen all use a belt , any reason why a single row , like a quality 530 chain isnt used . i know new belts are pretty tough and used in some high horsepower bikes , its the width of them and gearing options im thinking about
