I spotted this on Youtube and thought it to be very interesting. The Weisman's of Weisman Transmissions are involved with a project that they are building a 4 wheel drive transmission for a car that is going to attempt for the 500 mph+ piston engine speed record. It looks like money is not a problem.

I've been following Cookies build for a couple years. I like the fact that he very hands on and does his own driving before putting some young persons life in danger. I asked about one of those transaxles at the PRI show a few years ago and a 5 speed with the necessary gearing for LSRing was about $40,000.

Going to Bolivia in October.  Only taking four vehicles?  :clap

He has a history of setting records without appearing to break sweat ...

Awesome project.  Good luck to them.  I hope nothing breaks -- or even seriously malfunctions -- during a run.

Not many places in New Zealand for tuning and testing at high altitude, so taking a dyno makes sense.

Hampton Downs Motorsport Park, Waikato, New Zealand - 12 meters altitude. Main permanent circuit for the Auckland region where Reg Cook has his workshop
Taupo Motorsport Park, Taupo, New Zealand - 465 meters. Probably the highest altitude permanent circuit in New Zealand
Goudies Road, Reporoa, New Zealand - 548 meters. Rural road with 6.5 km straight, can be closed for landspeed record attempts

El Mirage, Mojave Desert, California - 865 meters (2840 ft)
Bonneville, Utah, United States - 1280 meters (4200 ft)

Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia - 3656 meters

Also, hard endless salt just across the pond from NZed, Gairdner, South Australia - 121 meters (396 ft)  :-)
First Australian to ride a motorcycle over 200mph at Bonneville,,,

My thoughts on Gairdner rainout is that we run at the wrong time .
Each year the Cyclonic weather patterns start in the north of the Country in late February .
this pushes weather south to Us in South Australia  affecting our events

All of my life  , exept for the last 10 years , our Weather came from the West of the Country 4 days later . This has now changed due to Climate Change , I assume . Paul in Adelaide.

Go to the Kiwi can do Bolivia Challenge. There are some excellent photos of there cars and work shop. Also seeking funds for the expense. I think this is a good investment as it will bring much needed publicity to the LSR addiction. Give a little, I did.

Our organizer in Bolivia and others in Bolivia tell us October is the best time to go. No chance of significant rain warmer weather and dead calm winds. That?s why we picked the date of October 18th.
