I'm looking for a new front axle for my 32 pontiac.
The factory axle is in it now with speedway forged spindles,  camaro disc brakes.  I had vals alignment bend the axle cause it had alot of camber.  Well the axle looks like a "W" .  Drives decent.
I'd like to find a round tube axle so I can set the caster.
It has 50" between kingpins.
3 inch drop.
This is geared towards a possible 130club entry one day.

Not sure that the caster can be both set right for street and high-speed use.  I'm sure someone will ring in here with better information that I'm thinking of -- 8 degrees would be alright for speed, but would it be kind on the street?

4 to 9 positive was normal range for factory solid axle cars. Building street rods I'd always give them about 11 to make them more stable at the speeds they didn't see back in their heyday. Don't get the scrub radius too big, I see that a lot with the ratrod crowd.

I haven't checked lately but at one time Speedway could build whatever you wanted.

If it was mine I'd keep the Pontiac axle . Old is cool . If you have hair pins/split wishbones don't use a tube axle . One wheel bumps try to twist the axle and tubes don't like to twist .

Believe a '32 Pontiac would have parallel semi-elliptic springs in front.
I`d never advocate drugs, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone...But they work for me.

rockracer,
I may have an axle for you. A mid 30 Dodge tube axle. Not much drop but very stout and it is set up for parallel leaf springs. If you are interested I will post a pic and take some measurements.

Not much matters and the rest doesn't matter at all.

 Sure I'm interested.
Looking at my steering arms.  They need to go in more . Looks like I have some options.
Yes on parallel leafs.

The only thing I can find close enough is this OER 47-54 chevy truck reproduction axle.  I would have to run shims if I wanted anymore caster. Its a 3" drop.  I'll have to look over the measurements I screenshotted to see if it's a possibility.
I know 32 chev guy's swap to this axle to get juice brakes.  Hopefully my 54 forged spindles will work.  Gonna give it a good hard look before any decisions

The more caster U run the more you will weight jack the rear wheels when you turn the steering wheel --especially if the car has much scrub radius!

There is a reason the roadster guys say  don't steer unless U just have to!

47 to 54 Chevy pickup axles have a bearing problem . Standard Timken bearings don't interchange because the inner bearing has an odd size bore and the way the seal rides on the inner race . The choices are Chinese ball or taper roller which often fail or custom adapters to use Standard Timken bearings .

rockracer

John.
Are you talking about the bearings for the brakes/hub or the kingpins ? Cause I have camaro disc in speedway spindles. Hub bearings are camaro.

Rock
Your spindles are for your Pontiac axle aren't they . It's unlikely that they would work on a Chevy pickup axle .

No.  They are Speedway forged spindles for 47-54 chevy truck.  Had a machine shop Hotrod guy drill the kingpins out to adapt those spindles to the stock axle,  camber was too much though.

In theory they should mate up.  Gonna double check.

What camber are you guys running  ?
54 axle says it has 1.5 degrees for radial tires. Not sure about the spindles.

Well damn.  Looks like the OER 47-54 reproduction axle isn't going to work.
Centerline for leafspring is 26-3/4". Mine is 27"
Calls for 1-3/4" springs.  Mine 2"
Everything so close yet so far away. 😔
If only I could weld my own perches.
