From the SCTA 2024 rulebook page 12 (By the way this is why I like the PDF version.  I can search, copy and paste.)

Quote1.G RECORD RUNS:
Records are established by a two-run average over the
same relative or physical mile, depending upon course
conditions. Only the fastest average speed will be used for
record calculation. The same engine block shall be used
for the two run average of each record attempt. Qualifying
runs that exceed the existing class record are considered
to be the first leg of the record attempt. A qualified vehicle
shall proceed directly to the designated impound area and
report to the official within one (1) hour of the time stamp
on the timing slip. Qualified entrants may have four (4)
hours from the time of check in to perform necessary
maintenance on the vehicle. Entrants should be cognizant
of pit closing time and be careful not to run late in the day
if a full four (4) hours are needed for maintenance. All
impounded vehicles shall make the second leg of the
record attempt at a time to be determined at the event.

Thank you SpeedRacer93 for the clarification on the time limit to get to impound.

So now my question is why was Speed Demon allowed to run for a record, when people have stated it was in the mud for 4 hours?

Also since they lost both parachutes on course why was the run allowed.

Because it was Speed Demon....

I feel this is where SCTA is falling behind.   The world has changed and people want things sooner than later.  Amazon Prime, smart phones, loss of magazines, and Video On Demand are just some examples of this trend.   Adding automation to a system reduces the demands on the worker  volunteers are welcome if it is not fast  enough.

[This SHOULD be construed as criticism of the SCTA.]

I have volunteered but I live 2000 miles from Bonneville and even farter from Southern California so I can't easily attend in person club meetings.

If a new person watched the video feed, went to the SCTA web site to see how to volunteer, where is the "how to volunteer" information located?

The Contact Us page - is a 4 page PDF list of names, none are for volunteering to help.   Also none of the names listed are for Web Site/Communication, Technology, or Timing.

I'd imagine that the Speed Demon made it to Impound and picked up their time slip after they had been "released" from the course.  And, probably, they were not allowed to work on the engine while still "grounded".

Stan, Time to get to impound is stamped on the timing slip at end of run. So I don't see your logic in being released from the salt. They lost two parachutes on their way to the mud. This in my opinion should have required a trip to inspection. Everyone has to be off the salt by 8pm. No exceptions. Something is very wrong IMO to let them in impound let alone let them run for the record. Rules are for EVERY ONE and EVERY CAR. Otherwise why have a rule book?

Well said Tom, rules should apply to every one equally.

The course kept them from going directly to Impound.  I was told that when they got to Impound, they worked out everything in two hours with time to spare before it closed.

Those of you that know me, know that I'm not always on the SCTA side -- especially after they cheated my team out of a record while in Impound by adding a few of their own words to the Rule Book.

Speed Limit 1000

A crew member took the timing slip to impound and got a time stamp. An impound inspector went down to the car to make sure no unauthorized work was done. the car got to impound in a timely manner and
was reinspected before the record run. Everything was within the rules, it is not the first car to run long and need assistance. The Speed Demon is a class team and doesn't need or want special treatment and break rules. The 200 mph club is proud of the fact that everyone is treated to the same standards

I am sorry but the rulebook states:

The vehicle did not make it to the designated impound area with in the one hour,  impound inspector came to the vehicle.  As the rules state Impound is a designated area not a person.    The rulebook don't state that a inspector can come to the vehicle, the vehicle has to come to the designated impound area so it not "with in" the rules as printed in the 2024 rulebook.

Trying to figure out which of the written rules in the rulebook will be applied for everyone.

They did gain an advantage because based on the written rules, they would have to do a re-run to qualify for the record.
