I just thought of this while reading this thread. In the past I have pulled plugs, did a leak down test, set the valves, checked the timing, changed oil. All kinds of mundane stuff. But what happens on a blown motor? If you qualified with 15lbs of boost can you change the spring in a turbo or the pulley ratio on a PD blower? Obviously, you can't change motors (displacement) but boost can certainly be a density change? It's been a while since I worked with Warner but I don't remember sealing any boost type things. Doesn't seem fair to qualify with a "safe" boost then raise it to "killer" mode in impound.  :|

You can change pulleys, timing and what ever else it takes to get more speed if you so desire. You can not change bore or stroke or add fuel alky or nitro if your running gas thus tanks are sealed.

Well if you qualified with a "safe" tune... why would you change it... to blow your motor before you get the record.... now after you own the record it's a different story.  Then you can blow your motor up at will!
Since I use an electronic boost control in my ECU program how would propose to seal that.... don't allow computers in inpound?
As Ron said, you can do anything but change engine displacement and fuel class.

I was just reading a salt report in a 2003 magazine , the Writer says  " he was told by an Official that the scta rule book was written in blood  " .......

Stainless I was thinking about when running on one's own record. "Killer" boost is a "go for broke" attempt to raise it.

So an electronic boost control is allowed in Classic class? Isn't that realtime engine management?

Most all their "safety" rules were "Written in Blood".

Unfortunately, some of us have seen their source.

I don't how we got to Classis class... Lakesters aren't limited in engine management.... at least in my classes... I did say ECU... but I think Classic can use manual boost control... turn it up till it frys and then back it off a little...  :?

Finally opened our motor to survey the damage... the good news, the motor portion seems to be fine... the bad news it the clutch and basket are in hundreds of pieces...  started cleaning up, oil pickup screen was full of clutch junk, pan was full of metal and clutch chunks.  We fought the clutch all week.  Our best mile times were 213+ twice, but issues kept us from backing those up with the numbers that would have put Dave in the 200 Club, luckily one of those was mixed with a 183+ to give us a 198.825 record.
Dave is happy, he didn't dent anything so his tin work lived to fight another day...  Dave drove the car in 2020, when he just missed taking the 1 liter blown record due to rough course 4-5, He wanted to give it another try. It was Hot... did I mention it was really HOT... maybe it's just because I'm getting older and don't remember it being that hot... or I'm older and the heat made it seem hotter, but for sure, it was HOT... Dave was drenched after a run, luckily the Ultra Chiller kept him cool while he waited to run.
After killing 2 Garrett turbos on the dyno without even getting to race them I figured out that the plastic cages they use for the ceramic bearings are junk... The last one had water and oil cooling and still started binding the bearings... I caught it before the bearings failed and sent it back to Garrett, who promptly told me I must not have assembled it correctly and they would be happy to sell me a third center section at a $200 discount.... I found Comp Turbo, started talking to them and tried to decide between the one that is just oil fed and the one that does not require oil or water, just a shot of grease every run... went with the oil fed since all that was already in place.  It is still alive... Hopefully I will never need to check their warranty.

Yep Mike, that tells me that the BLM is preparing us for the "bankruptcy walk away" of the strip miners LLC but they are letting them keep whatever money they can make between now and then.... All the money... harder and harder to follow... that should be used for restoration has lined someone's pocket

I'm at work so the best i could do is a 2021 rule book, says likely two years to upgrade the current salt pumping infrastructure. I have missed the last two years due to weather, anybody see any upgrades?

We run in the classic class and run a manual boost controller.  We turned it up till it fried, but it was too late to back it off a little.  We were doing 178 on a 168 record though.  They run soo good right before they let go.

Mike,

This brings up a good question which is not addressed and should be IMO. So what we were talking about is a Major infraction of the rules when talking about the parachutes. So the way I read the rules is that type of infraction is above the Race director's authority to make a decision on, so now the Board has to vote on the issue.

If one of the board members is also a member of the Team that had the infraction, do they as a team member and on the Board get to vote on the outcome of the infraction?  Maybe the rule book needs to read that If the Race Director or a Board member is also on the race team  causing the infraction of the rules, that 2024 SCTA Rule Book, page 3, 2nd paragraph, not be followed and the written rule under the SECTION Catagory of the rule book be followed. That would eliminate anyone thinking about favoritism of any kind coming into the equation.  Thoughts?

Looking on the SCTA web site for World Finals information, I noticed that there is a new pdf with both run speeds for records set at Speed Week.

However, the numbers for the Pilgrim and Stubbs diesel lakester/streamliner record don't quite add up, i.e. qualifying run at 272.434 mph with return at 274.183 mph does not average to 273.313 mph.

Perhaps someone attending WF can bring it to SCTA's attention so that the speeds can be checked and corrected as necessary?
