Very sad watching the video. This year watching from the line we were all hoping they would bump their record and of course get the top speed of the meet. When the chute popped out and the car turned left just off the line the disappointment was huge for everyone. Unfortunately the speed gods were not kind.

Working in the shop I use the 'F' word a lot. No not that word these words Focus and Finish go Fast and Flathead Ford!

Well that sucks. I wish Tom Burkland would put some of those softer compound Goodyears on his car and maybe a little ballast so he could get  above 40percent throttle.  Easy 460-480mph car.

Thank you Team Vesco for all you have contributed to the sport over the years.

I love the USA. How much longer will we be a free nation?

Damn.  One of the cars I've always wanted to see in person.

Sad! I was hoping to see it at full tilt someday. I wonder if it will find a new owner? I can imagine maintaining such a machine is quite an endeavor.

I have many favorite cars that run on the salt but this was one of the tops! Happy I was around as a spectator when they ran 503 out the back door in 2018!

My interpretation of the video is that Rick Vesco is saying the available track is not long enough to support 500mph runs at present, and probably won?t be for the foreseeable future.  Therefore no reason to bring Turbinator to the salt.

For the same reason (track length) I understand Tom Burkland is not going to run his streamliner, with or without different tires/tyres or added ballast, any time soon.

Which possibly just leaves Speed Demon running in the high 400s?

Maybe the Bonneville Salt Flats has become obsolete for really fast vehicles.  I don't know how long the course at Lake Gairdner is.  It appears that Bolivia still has a future, regarding length.  I hope that some day Turbinator does break the record
for wheel-driven vehicles, while exceeding 500 mph.

Gairdner on average is 8-9 miles,, in 2018 The World Speed Trials (FIM,FIA) course was 12 miles long  :-)
First Australian to ride a motorcycle over 200mph at Bonneville,,,

It would be terrific if The Turbinator would break 500mph. My recollection is that Lake Gairdner has inclement weather too frequently. The Vescos are champs nonetheless. Don helped me with my front steering on the Honda Hawk after I had messed it up. Good guy.

And you thought the BLM didn't care. wait until the CCP rapes the Salt down there. https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/technology/bolivia-announces-1-billion-deal-with-chinese-company-for-white-gold-production-we-hope-to-close-that-deal-as-soon-as-possible/ar-AA1x3ItT?ocid=entnewsntp&pc=DCTS&cvid=cec09c3a86b145ae8ccf45f819d8a178&ei=81

Quick question for us learning.  How come another run was not made if it was just the parachute  ?
Bonneville isn't obsolete.  If NHRA has taught us anything,  is we can go faster in shorter distances.
More parachutes couldn't hurt.  Maybe pop one or pair out for initial speed reduction and once down to 200 or under. Pop another out.
In stages.  Just a idea,  I'm sure there's reason's this is bad.  Fire away. 😉

I have observed that dragsters are getting quicker and faster, despite the distances being shortened.  And I appreciate your
apparent optimism about technology helping to promote improved performance.  For a long time, I have wondered whether
Bonneville would be suitable for racing, even if the salt is no longer there in substantial quantity.  Dirt probably does not
provide as much traction, but the length of available "salty dirt" is likely to remain quite sufficient to provide plenty of room
for safe acceleration and slowdown, if traction can be adequately addressed.  Spoilers could do this, while requiring more
horsepower.  Technology can provide that.  Where there's a will, there's a way.  Cubic bucks, of course, helps.
