In the early 70s, I saw this car run at Ontario Motor Speedway.  I think the meet was called the Summernationals (or something similar -- maybe it was the Springnationals, or even the Supernationals).  In those days, drag races were typically 1/4 mile long.  It was an awesome (smokeless, and not very loud) run:    4.97 seconds / 312 mph.

Tony Fox had Vern Anderson and crew run the Pollution Packer at numerous NHRA "Nationals" events.

Here are some examples of the Pollution Packer NHRA "nationals" speeds in 1973.

Here is a list of Pollution Packer record times in the 1/4-mile. The Proud American LSR project stopped short of completion when Tony Fox died.

I will order this book.  I have great appreciation for your achievements in land speed racing.

MAYOMAN

Thank you. I hope you will enjoy it. I attempted to share the complete experience from our original concept through the challenges - and credit all those who contributed to our successful absolute world land speed record in 1970.

The book was excellent!  It was really inspiring to follow along from the idea phase to getting it done.  The fact that you went out and beat the existing world record on the first trip to the salt is a real testament to the effort that went into the design and build of the car.

It's too bad you never got to find out the true limits of the car though...

MAYOMAN

Overall, it was not too disappointing as our kilometer record (first over 1,000 km/hr) lasted 27 years. Check out our online video films.

Wow, that?s an impressive time for the early 70s, 4.97 seconds at 312 mph is seriously fast, especially with a smokeless and quieter run. I?ve always thought those old drag races had something special, with teams pushing the limits even without today?s tech. Ontario Motor Speedway had some great events back then, and hearing about those runs really brings that era to life.

Mayoman, I bought the book and really enjoyed it.
