I'll be looking for tires this spring.  235/75/15.  H-rated
What tires do you guy's like for the 130club  ?
Any tread pattern that's preferred .
Also any recommendations to get em locally (utah, slc area)

I?ve ran Goodyear V rated tires with good success , don?t go very wide though.

The only match Tire Rack has is a Vogue Tyre whitewall with a gold pinstripe. You'd be stylin'.

Do you have a link to that ?
Can't seem to find anything, even Z-rated tires . Talked to a few tire shops and nothing from them either. Most think im talking about h/t trailer tires. 🤨
Could USFRA possibly let newcomers run (T) rated tires and restrict you to 120mph.
As a former tire guy,  the tire world ain't what it used to be.
Unless yall are holding out on me and have the secret hookup. 😉

I do not run at the USFRA or the "street" classes. I did run in a car that never went over 150 at Bonneville Speed Week and El Mirage in the 70-80's. The record speeds were also never over 150 at this time either and the car actually held a few of records at one time. I ran a Michelin XVS tire that was rated as an H and also a set of GoodYear "Highway Pursuit" normally for Highway Patrol use. I kept them off the car and protected from sunlight and they were only used in competition. The same thing I now do with my land speed race only tires. I was never told by an inspector my tires were inadequate.

Speed ratings on tires are there for sustained speed which should not be the only a consideration for Land Speed, THIS IS MY OPINION. Any H rated tire should be able to be used in the speed trials range you are wanting to compete in. I would write a letter to the USFRA Car Tech inspector for clarification. The max you can run is 150 before becoming a race car needing all pertinent safety rules of the SCTA/BNI book used by all the organizations.

Yes an V, Z, and W are higher.... 149, 149 or higher, and 168. with Y being 186 or higher but all are sustained speeds.

Michelin still list the 235-70-15's I ran at the time. They may only be in Europe

So what is your rim width? Have you calculated the RPM at your target speed? What is your peak HP RPM? There must be another tire size that would work.

Tortoise:::  Thanks.
Those are practically the only (H-rated) tires in that size . I'm not crazy about the gold pinstripe but always wanted to go back to whitewalls.  Might get em.

Just having fun with alittle math.
Years ago, 2008 IIRC,  I had a small lil car with the same engine and ran it up to 4200rpm and the speedo broke on the way to the salt.
Mathed it out to 115mph.
Now I have OD and taller tires, different car.

"1932 Pontiac Six (32 chevy basically) all completely stock.  No body mods. Stock height,  parallel leafs suspension, cross steering and disc brakes.
Running gear.  79 Pontiac V6 231cu, maybe 235 bored,  th200r4 trans and 8.8 Ford rear 3.73."

This has a LOT more drag than a Sunbird. You might do close to 100 mph in direct drive. It'll slow down when you go into OD.

Then you have to factor in wheel slip due to the salt.  I would have to confirm with my local team, but the 16% number comes to mind.

I am going thru similar figuring, as I am motor bike shopping for the 130 & 150 Club.

I could see a 16% wheel spin in a lower-gear, but in direct drive at over 200, our speed was usually right on the money according to our high tech Isky Dream Wheel.

Perhaps I'm not understanding what the above means.  I'd think that a 16% spin ratio at over 200, you might go for a spin.

Once I get it back together,  the test drive will be the deciding factor.  If it still handles weird at 70 then I'll bag this whole idea.

While getting an alignment,  chatting with the salesman,  he found me a set of H-rated tires 235/75/15   in a  winter tire .
Hmm.  Wondering how traction would be.  😉

Well.  After the alignment and getting the steering wheel str8 , some drag link trimming was necessary.  Got on the highway ,  ran it up to 90mph and all is smooth.  Handles great like a whole new car. 😁
I think I can proceed with this 130 idea and start building .
