Jerry,

I know you are kidding but what would you do with it? I could be wrong but I think it last ran in the 70's.

What do you think it will sell for at Auction? Is there an Turbine Engine installed? I will estimate $200,000 - 300,000.

With its record runs behind it, the Sonic I came under the care of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum in 1975. It has been exhibited occasionally, including at the Daytona International Speedway in 1980 and at the then-newly opened Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, California in 1995, and remains a visually commanding and technologically fascinating piece of speed record history.

Well, in this crazy world when a piece of conceptual art consisting of a simple banana, duct-taped to a wall, sold for $6.2 million at an auction in New York on Wednesday, with the winning bid coming from a prominent cryptocurrency entrepreneur.  Who knows??????   My guess $1 to $100,000,000.  I think I have the bases covered, but I might not.  :-D :-D

a little bit about the SoA Sonic 1

the car always belonged to Goodyear/Shell as the main sponsors....after the final record in 65, Craig got the racer on loan for a year to tour around in the states to make some money at car shows....a revenge of Goodyear, as to their opinion, Craig had not friendly act to them....talking about the story with the letter size of Goodyear on the side of the SoA.....
the SoA was for a long time at the Indy Museum, how the museum got in 1975 his hand on the SoA as the owner, isn't really known...well, the curator of the Indy museum didn't like speed record vehicles at all, so it was from time to time on "tour"...so for a while, outside, in the public parking lot of the Peterson...after a while parked there, the paint was all but not in a good shape anymore and Peterson gave the SoA back to the Indy museum, complaining that the paint looks bad!!!!!!!! call it arrogance....
However, with the help of some supporters, like Shell, the SoA got a complete new paintjob and found again his place inside the Indy museum and was there, up to the day when they closed it.
As Craig told me, when he gave the car back to Goodyear it still had a J79 engine installed, also when I saw the SoA at the Petersen and at the Indy museum.....but he couldn't tell me if this was the one which was installed for the 600 record. The photos from the auction shows, that the refurbish not only include the paint, but also the engine....

Stainless, Thanks for the offer, but I cannot buy anything until I sell off my Modified Roadster. Wait I have an idea!!!!! Maybe I should duct tape a Banana on the side of the Roadster and auction it off. Maybe the guy who bought the banana on the wall will also want one duck taped on a Modified Roadster!!!!  Then I could afford to bid on the SOA. I can always dream.   :-D :-D :-D :-D

My wife and I walked into the IMS Museum in the fall of 2014 to find not only four Lotus 56 turbine cars (one of the coolest-looking race cars of all time, in my mind) but also, in the back, SoA Sonic I.

We hadn't planned our visit to IMS in advance and to see these cars made for a Very Good Day.  :-)

Later on the road trip we went to Chicago where we saw the original 1963/1964 Spirit of America at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry (that part was planned).

IMS recently announced they were selling the SoA and several other cars, including a Ferrari 250LM ($15M?) and a Mercedes W196 raced by Fangio and Moss (est. $50M), to focus the collection on Indycars and raise funds for future operations.

Does anyone know the meaning (if any) of the seahorse emblem on the seat?
