The artwork implies they are coming to the salt, but the article doesn't mention where such attempts will be made. Besides, I have my doubts about the project.

I heard about this but?.i doubt it will be Speedweek  ?.simply because it?s not going to comply with the construction rules. Could be wrong though. Let?s see if they turn up.

I don't see this as a very serious project -- other than a marketing stunt.  But I approve of narrowness in the design.

Orydo

I'll believe it when I see it actually hitting the salt flats.

That'd be a fat duck moving about as much air as three streamliners glued together!

Looking at the pictures there is no chance that the car would pass SCTA inspection and looking at all of the added body work to cover the tires, which it doesn't do a good job of, it would probably be faster without any of the add on covers and run as a lakester. No electric class in the lakester rule so it would still a streamliner. My bet is that if they do this the runs would be made in South America, better coarse and what ever length you want plus the electric motors don't care if it is at 12,000 feet.

Love to see them try it. With Michelin involved maybe we would have another tire option.

Not much matters and the rest doesn't matter at all.

Maybe they are eyeballing a FIA electric record...  :-o

The car is a concept car and is on show in Paris currently and testing starts in spring of 2025 apparently ?I?m guessing on a concrete runway somewhere in France. They have plenty of them.

Well the article says 2205 curb weight... 2204.6 would put them in a FIA record at 175.... If I'm reading all the FIA crap correctly... French aren't thinking SCTA, they are thinking record....

I think the relevant FIA records are 205 mph (mile) and 207 mph mph (km).  Probably beatable on an airport runway if they don't fancy running on the salt.

Max Biaggi set records at 240 mph in France (in 2020) and 283 mph at the Kennedy Space Center (2021) on an electric motorcycle.

just a short information where the Renault idea comes from...this was a concept in the 1920's...a couple years old....

it doesn't matter where this racer runs...since January 2016, a record vehicle under FIA rule, needs the same safety/construction requirements as we use for SCTA/USFRA meets....

This wild concept takes inspiration from historic Renault machines of yore to help create a testbed for the future.

They should start with a clean sheet. In the 20s areo wasn't even a consideration. It won't be an SCTA attempt. It will be overseen by the FIA like the Thrust SSC speed of sound effort.

Just in case...or the possibility...you didn't read my note properly...

  • So as the Thrust SSC was built, he would be not legal now (since 2016), as a example...the Thrust SSC missed a roll cage...
  • Attached, the Renault 40, special aerodynamic designed, used for records, especially endurance...that's the base for the center of this today concept

    • The outrigger idea...in the 20's Valier RAK 8 had the idea, see this concept...so...what's new...
    • Aerodynamic in the 20's, not a consideration...well...ask Parry-Thomas, Segrave, M Campbell...or better...Railton... muutt muutt muutt muutt muutt

Renaults of this time had a slopey front pan with very small openings. The radiators were back by the cowl, one on each side.

You right, Renault used a very strange radiator position...

the radiator was behind the engine...the radiator visible - as here the 1909 - was a long time the trademark of Renault...
1922 they changed the frontend, the radiator was still behind the engine, the air went through slots on the side and radiator was full size.
but the frontend still got his characteristic corner shape
the 1926 Renault 40CV, the record car - and the base for the main body, of the 2025 concept - had as the first Renault a full opening up front...but the radiator
was still behind the engine...
1928, the first street car from Renault which showed this design change like the 40CV

By the way, the original concept of the 40CV still had the closed, corner shape front...but as the body work kept the narrow shape...the normal street body was much wider in the rear...
they couldn't get enough air inside to the radiator...so they opened the front...

2025 actually use the original design of the 40CV
