Went back out to the lakebed on Sunday with high hopes of seeing some fast time put up but, it wasn't meant to be.
I understand that Geoff Stillwell ran fast enough to claim top time of the meet but that achievement was all but lost on the fatal accident that occurred. According to the SCTA website, Corey Severa was driving the Hotrod Hoodlums BSTR, lost control and crashed. He died on the scene. I know those guys. We consider each other friends and Renee and I are gutted. We were laughing and joking with them before the run. Corey was a great guy and I will miss his smile and his quick wit. He leaves behind a 10 year old daughter and countless friends. I can imagine making that call. I've been on the receiving end of one and my heart breaks for the individual who has to make it. It's been a tough couple of months with the losses that have affected me. Steve, Jimmy and now Corey? But this post is not about me. It's about the losses that we all experience and how we should to be kind to one another and be grateful for the time we spend on this planet. Pick up the phone today and give someone that you haven't spoken to in a while a call. It's good for your soul. And theirs.

Sorry to hear about the incident and outcome regarding Corey Severa. Godspeed Corey. My condolences to his family and friends.

Thanks for letting us know Mark, for those of us who don't do Facebook.
I love the USA. How much longer will we be a free nation?

I agree it's a tragedy. Usually short wheelbase roadsters at El Mirage are a pretty known, relatively safe combination, but I guess it goes to show the risk that remains. Godspeed Corey.

Sorry for this tragic loss. The SCTA results list the entry as a D/BStr.

Yes, it was a D/BSTR that Corey was driving and not a B/STR.
Also, there has been a Go Fund Me campaign setup for his family...

I saw the Whites 131 comp coupe went through a hole & got airborne, the wheelbase probably helped that outcome there. We do off road racing but we don't expect the jumps! :?

Yeah, I heard it described as a ramp, a bump and a jump by a couple of drivers. Was the course moved Saturday night?

" The SCTA official press release only confirmed that Corey Severa lost control of his vehicle approximately 0.7 miles down the dry lakebed track. Mechanical failures, track surface conditions, and aerodynamic factors are typically analyzed during land speed racing accident investigations, but the formal inquiry remains ongoing. "

Any news following the investigation?

Hopefully whatever caused Corey's car to crash, it can be addressed so it doesn't  happen to another racer.

The course was not moved Saturday night.

My understanding is that crash happened well before the bump everyone is talking about.

I think a discussion needs to happen about requiring suspension in all cars that originally came with suspension. We have seen the race courses at Elmo and Bonneville get bad enough to require it.
It is just a fact that a suspended car will handle and hook up better which will make it safer.
