Is Honda Motor Company considered one manufacturer or two?

It may seem like either an odd or a straightforward question, but it has been asked many times on this forum (I just finished an hour's worth of searching and reading) and it seems to have never been answered, at least not publicly.

From the Honda company website: "Company Name: Honda Motor Co., Ltd.
Chief Products: Motorcycles, automobiles, power products"

So, then! Is a Honda motorcycle engine in a Honda car a legal engine swap according to this language: "Engine swaps are
permitted, as long as they are of the same manufacturer
(eg., Ford into Ford, Porsche into Porsche, etc.)."

Thanks!

Until about 5 years ago mixing species was not allowed in any class except special construction.   The only answer I can offer is ask on the official scta question line, and please let us all know what answer you received...  :|

You could ask the same question about a couple of other companies. Like BMW and VW for example. VW made a bike in the 60's also.

One might refer to Doc Jeffries/Jack Dolan 1987 G/GT entry for a record in a usually mundane domestic Ford EXP, with a European only Ford engine.

IMO up until last year I would have said no. But now they let Motorcycle motors run in the car classes. Example: #1 points car for 2008 at El Mirage, and now a Roadster runs a busa motor. Since they allowed this to happen I think you have a very good argument in your favor.

I love the USA. How much longer will we be a free nation?

Asking questions is one's only way of getting answers.

The rational person lets verified facts form or modify his opinion.  The ideologue ignores verified facts which don't fit his preconceived opinions.

OK bike folk do not forget Suzuki who have two and four wheel machines.

This 'can of worms' could start a whole legion of engine replacement opportunities as the 'car makers' are absorbed into single big units.  Does the '08 rule book define who the 'maker' or 'manufacturer' is?

The most interesting to me is that Subaru cars are made by Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. - AA+ cubic capacity of earth moving engine anyone?

Can I put the Chrsler engines in my Daimler Dart - both companies now being one?

Don't you just hate being a rule writer?

PS What would the SCTA have done if Jack D had turned up with a Ford DFV F1 V8 engine in that compact saloon?  Same manufacturer .... well sort of (with apologies to Cosworth) the cam covers do say FORD.

Funny how that G/GT car managed to run in G/GC, G/Alt and G/CC too?

Rules then did allow engine swaps as now without specification of the country of origin, just the manufacturer.

I know what LSR M5 is up too.  My nephew!

Hmmmm.... This from DW in the engine set back in GT thread.  More confusion:

Thats correct. Just because the name includes the the letters GT does not mean your car will be classed as a GT/MS.

In the GT classes the engine "swap" must remain in the manufacture's production inventory. A Ford Indy engine from the 60s is not allowed as a GT swap.

Jacksoni, GT is a production class, all production classes are species and gender specific.  Doc and Dolan ran motors from the same species (car in car) and gender (ford in ford),  when you step outside those lines is where you hit the controversy.
Since scta allowed bike motors in roadsters, MS, altered, and CC, I think he probably can get away with it in those  classes.
Won't fly in production...
But heck, M5, ask, the worst they can say is no.  (what they told us in 85 when we were putting a MC motor in our Abarth) Times change...  :|

Agreed and I have no problem with the engine swap etc, was the car class I was referring to. ( has been a question before and is dead issue now- no further comment)  Seems lots of folks putting bike engines in cars, go for it I say.

Did that already... waiting on a response. I will pass along what they say.

No. Evil Tweety has been run in Production, so it cant now run in GT. In production no swap is allowed. Once you leave production and move into the modified classes swaps of pretty much any type is allowed.

The response I received from the rules email inquiry is: "At this time there are no restrictions on putting a motorcycle in an automobile."

That doesn't quite address the manufacturer-specific aspect of my question so I asked for clarification and am awaiting further information.
