:? After my discussion with Van Butler yesterday, who has my respect and my thanks for the heads up on this, I have been in a total state of confusion and MAJOR depression. It seems as though the motorcycle frame material dimensions MAY change from the current  specs to more closely conform to the car specs. This potential change in the rules may OBS all current streamliners and streamliners currently under construction (mine) that were built to the specs that were in force during construction. I realize that change is inevitable and that changes are nearly always done to improve safety, but what about all the streamliners already built and being raced??? Mine isn't too far along that I can't scrap the first 13 feet of the front and start over when the NEW specs are decided. After all, it's only time and cubic dollars!! Speaking of "when the new rules are decided"... Van told me that it might be a couple months before the rules are decided...soooo, everyone building a motorcycle or sidecar streamliner will be at least a couple months behind schedule
Thank you for allowing me to vent some of my frustration. I hope this new thread will spark some comments.

Hmmmmm.. seems like an improvement may be needed to further the safety of the rider?

1.250 x 0.090 wall for a 350mph bike liner  vs. 1.625 x 0.120 for 350 mph car liner.

If i was building a bike liner it would be of the car spec tubing :-)

There's a possible mc tire rule on the horizon as well.

MC streamliners might get inspected in the car inspection area as well..

:-o I guess what sparked this potential rule change was the death of Cliff  and the fact that motorcycle streamliners are approaching the 350-400mph range. 8-)

1) Does "FRAME" mean the entire frame structure including everything in front of the front tire and behind the rear tire (including the supporting structures)?
2) or is the frame considered the structure just between the wheels?
3) or is the frame considered the structure enclosing only the cockpit/driver's area?
4) I wonder if the roll bar would really have to change to the 1.625 x .120 or be 1.500 x .090/.120?  :|

If and when the "new" frame rules go into effect,
this would make at least 3 M/C and sidecar liners
that are now 90% complete museum pieces.
If SCTA/BNI does make the changes........lets DO
IT NOW......and explain "frame"................................
Maybe a couple of the liners can update to the new specs.......................................................................

OH Man, this is seriously tough news for my project.  I'm just about to finish up the canopy frame and skin in the next couple weeks. I understand the desire to prevent tragic results of crashes, but........ I've spent a bunch of time, a significant amount of dough and may not have a chance to run it ever, should the rules for chassis construction change significantly. Should I spend anymore and finish it?  It could end up being a 17ft long paper weight. What to do.....wait?

:-o Van Butler said that the rules MAY change to something more in line with the car frame rules. As for me, I can't afford to spend any more time or money on my frame just to have to change it or scrap it in the future. My stand will have to be take a wait-and-see then decide what to do. That'll put my build at least 2 or months behind schedule :-(
Maybe Van Butler will jump in here and help with some direction and give us the skinny on the meeting the rules committee had the other day  :?

If I had a liner in the works, or completed, I'd contact the SCTA directly.
Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.

as i read the rule book there are no car or motorcycle " frame rules"  only roll cage rules --in the car rules it says--  any design frame may be used and shall be of sufficient strength to resist flex and twist---in the motorcycle streamliner rule it says--all componets shall have sufficient strength to ensure stability and safety--as a chassis builder ive learned lots of things over the years but i will tell you this --no one can build a chassis and roll cage and guarantee the stability of the vehicle and your safety  if they say they can THEY ARE LIEING   -------------just some thoughts ----willie buchta

OK, I'm going to ask the question that no one seems to want to ask, is this a reaction to the death of Cliff Gullett? If so has the cause of his passing been established? I have seen nothing about the particulars of the crash. I'm not talking about the cause of the crash, thats probably almost impossible to determine. I'm talking about what caused the drivers death? Equipment failure, structural failure? Does anyone know?

Yes, I would think this reaction has a lot to do with Cliff's accident and yes, they do know what caused his passing and yes, they do have a very good idea what was the cause of the accident.
I don't have the answers....the BUB people may have some of the answers......................................
And yes, I did contact SCTA/BNI and at this time
no answer..........................................................................
And no, SCTA/BNI officials will not "jump in here"
they have stated in the past that the SCTA/BNI site is the only one that counts............and Landracing.com is just a "gossip" site with no valid information.  (I was told this by a board member)...............SO, now where do we stand??????
