Just like the title says, who builds a prefab cage for a 32 roadster?  I can do it, but for the price, my time is more precious than $300. (At least, that's what S&W's 10 point cage for a 32 coupe is).  Pretty much, I'm building a D/STR car, and will need the typical helmet cage, etc.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.  JL

WOW $300 is a good deal!  But be careful as some drag cages don't meet the thickness requirement.  A search on here will find some good threads.

I didn't look for S&W's cage, but considering that the cage is in the air and our racing is all about aero I would want the cage designed around that in the car as well as for the safety aspect.  You can see the difference in speeds between the cars that take that into consideration and those that don't.  I can't see a generic cage being the optimal one for LSR.

Good luck,

Your cage should fit you in the car, aka custom build. If your on the left coast you can have it built at Vintage Hot Rod.

Pro Machine is right. Look at the two attached pictures - both record holders.

Although S&W makes fine products yrs truly is sure their '32 coupe rollbar is WAY too bulky for a SERIOUS effort.

How did that yellow roadster do in the wind tunnel?

Not sure how good it did in the wind tunnel, but it broke the car in the lower picture's record by 8 MPH!

Very recent NASCAR motor vs California Hot Rodder Hilborns and Vertex mag of ten years or so back.

Looking at the wind tunnel picture of the 531 roadster its interesting some of the changes they made.  The hood scoop is smaller and the windshield kick up is smaller (this is inline with the modern open wheel cars) to help lift the air over the roll bar.  Take a look at the front torsion bar suspension. When I was talking to them on salt it was  mentioned that they had an air conditioning condenser (a little over 1" think) for the front radiator (I think it had the fins stacked tighter to help block the air) to gain room to move the axle forward as possible.  A  lot of little gains can help.

On my '32 I played around a lot with the windshield area and found gains on the CFD runs I did.  This is one of the  many models I ran.  It used a small 1/2"  kick up on top of the windshield riser. I also played with the shape and angle of the riser.

The big rectangular hole was an ILLEGAL duct opening. They went to USFRA's WOS and snuck that run in .

They later came back and legitimately got the record in  '08.

Thanx for picture ,never saw it, just had reports of it.

DON'T TRY THIS ON THE SALT FLATS OR THE LAKE BED! NOT IN STREET ROADSTER, anyway.
