Can anyone identify the motorcycle and cars in the photo from 1955 on page 20 of the Dec 2010 HOT ROD?

i wasn't too impressed with this years coverage of speedweek. for a mag. that has been presenting the top speed trophy since 49, you'd think they would give it more than just 8 wimpy pages. i want some coverage damnit. even though i was there, i still didn't get enough. :-D :-D :-D

In this age of quick-cut videos, pop up commentary, Power Tours and Rat Rods the print media must appeal to very wide range of subscribers/news stand purchases.

Hot Rod is no longer "our" magazine, welcome to the 21st century.

There's more there now than in the not tooooo distant past.

BALS a SALT, I agree.

Why don't you start a new magazine devoted entirely to Bonneville?

If you were happy with it, I am certain we  would be.

The way I look at it is any positive ink from any publication is good for the sport of LSR.They all have a time frame and limited pages for any article. The story and pictures show all sides of what it takes to run at and spectate that also helps the meet with a few dollars from all sides.

The rear engined modified roadster on the right sure looks like Don Waite's car to me. He worked for Edelbrock.

I love the USA. How much longer will we be a free nation?

As a youngster I used to eagerly await the Nov. Hot Rod for the Bonneville issue.  I haven't subscribed to HRM for years now but this morning I had a glance when I was in the local supermarket.  For a magazine that sponsors the top speed trophy the coverage was pretty slim.  As DW said Hot Rod is no longer our magazine.  Fortunately Bonneville is still our meet.
Get off the stove Grandad.  You're too old to be riding the range.

I have to agree I thought the HRM coverage on Speedweek was a little slim.

As a subscriber I haven't received my Dec. issue yet, one of the special perks.

I did see a copy at Auto Aero Books in Burbank on Friday. I stopped at the pic of the WGB, thought that was cool.
Jay Leno stopped in while I was there, nice guy, I've seen him there before.

When you get it Dan check out the little one page article with a picture of the 1955 event.  Freighburger (sp) states that the reason the black lines are gone was because of the environmental effect of the salt bed.

as crazy as is sounds.. the magazine business "IS" a business.... its common practice in that type of "business" to give more editorial coverage to advertisers.... kinda back scratching to those involved.... It probably wouldn't hurt for the SCTA to actually place an advertisement in the rag.... not to promote our racing cuz lord knows we cant support more participants but to promote our events and increase SCTA merchandise sales.... I think it could be a very good revenue stream for the SCTA

Coverage slim?  I'm sure we all think so.
Wanna see more? I'm sure we all do.
Glad to get a little something?  Damn right!

It WOULD be nice to have an LSR devoted publication.  I hope I'm a big fan, but don't know many of the faces - though people ask "Isn't that somebody that went 282 on a scooter?"  There ARE a lot of fans, and a lot of young fans out there.

God bless you all, almost everyone goes faster than I! hahahahaha.

Well, we have this board, that's pretty good, isn't it?
