I know SSS already mentioned it but...I just made my appointment for my physical for my FIM license. I think Slim mentioned after 50 you are required to get an 'excersise tolerance ECG and a echocardiography. They don't do those at my doctor's office and they would have to schedule it for me elsewhere. He wanted me to be sure it was needed and to let him know in advance. On the medical exam form I received it says used for: an applicant for any license in Cross Country Rallies
(World Championship, FIM Prize, International Events). No where on the exam does it say anything about being required after age 50.

Can anybody who knows please tell me?

Thanks  :?

Here you go, Rocky Rockolulu.  From the FIM medical packet -- all 61 pages of it.  Refer to page 11, sec. 9.2.1 (per Charlie Hennakam)

"09.2.1 Applicants aged over 50 years
Applicants aged over 50 years must attach to their rider's licence request a certificate
of medical fitness including a normal exercise tolerance electrocardiogram.
(Refer to the respective appendices for the maximum age limits that apply to
certain FIM World Championships and Prizes)
The limit for the maximum age in Road racing GP and SBK World Championships
finishes at the end of the year in which the rider reaches the age of 50.
The limit for the maximum age in the Road racing Endurance World Championship
finishes at the end of the year in which the rider reaches the age of 55."

Rocky for the FIM "World record" attempt you will need to pass the stress test as well as the standard physical at age 50 or more during the date of the racing date.  Not needed for AMA, SCTA....

Thanks everyone. I guess this getting old stuff ain't for the faint of heart!

Rocky, they hook all sorts of wires and electrodes to you and you walk and run on a treadmill.  Kaiser Permanente does mine.  Actually, it is a good idea for people our age that will be subject to stress.

If additional info. is needed, Rocky, contact FIM Charlie at ...charles.hennekam@fim.ch..........................
The FIM has age limits on some of their competition classes however, last time I checked with Charlie
not so for LSR...
Question authority.....always

I sent a note to Rocky - so now he's got Charlie's email address as well as links to the FIM documents.

But speaking of FIM -- what do they call what we designate at land speed racing?  They've got many categories of events -- but I don't remember (and haven't figured it out) which one is for LSR attempts.  Help, please.

...Rocky...i just checked with Denis M. and it seems that for LSR attempts
over 50 yrs of age..that applicants/entrants must be limited to 200hp...

Joe :)

ps Denis speaks from "higher" position..and Charlie and FIM are not appraised of this
detail yet..

Putting out 200 HP on the treadmill would be quite an accomplishment at that age!

(Sorry, Joe, couldn't resist.)

Like - it would be easier to make the required 200 hp at your (or my) age, Stan?  Or do you mean that only a young sprout might handle the task? :-D

..yes thanks for clarifying...should have read "limited to operation of
vehicles with less than 200 hp"...

additionally...d/t to newly developed health care program...the "Healthy Seniors Czar"
(recently appointed) instituted further constraints...those 50 and over who have consumed
more than 18 Mcdonalds Happy Meals in their lifetime can only attend sporting events (including
LSR) as spectators.......

The last treadmill test I took was about 10 years ago.  My legs collapsed exactly at the end of the test.  For others like me you will be glad to know there is a chemical they can inject (or maybe you swallow it; I forget which) that can simulate the treadmill stress test.  They threatened to give me the chemical if I could not finish the treadmill - this gave me the energy to keep going.  On the other hand, my jock kid wore himself out on a treadmill stress test and he and the Doctor finally gave up - he could not get his heart rate over 70 beats per minute no matter how long he ran.

When I was administered one of the stress tests - on the treadmill, yup - my thoughts near the end of the ordeal were along the lines of "Well, while I might have a heart attack from doing this - at least I'm near lots of doctors."  I darn near collapsed from the efforts.  I remember them going on and on with the test, and when they asked me how I was doing I thought they were ready to call it complete.  Nah - that's when they turned it up to full speed.  Sheesh! :-o

At least I've had one in the past couple of years, so that oughta be enough for FIM.  I don't know about Nancy - can't remember if she's had one recently enough.  She's a runner, though -- might have the same issue as your kid, Tom.
