Hi all, hope all's well ! Wondering if there is anybody planning on attending the 2024 T&T in June that might have an extra live body available? I MIGHT need a recovery truck driver/belt up helper. I have a commitment from my nephew, but just found out he's having a baby (well NOT him  :-D ) and I am not so certain he will be able to make it. It is hard for most people to take T&T and WOS in the same year. My regular teammates may try to make it but unsure at this point. Hit me up if there is anybody interested. Thanks and fingers crossed for great salt. Have a safe spring!

Morning Sid, I met you a couple years back at WOS if my old memory is still functioning. I was based out of Eugene Or at the time but now I am happily based about 500+ miles north of you ,by the Idaho panhandle. Little burg called Troy ,Mt about as west as you can get in Montana . Looking at a map , you are real close to the salt, I'm jealous but wouldn't trade where we are for anything. We don't even have a traffic light  lol8 I will definitely keep in touch as we get closer , I should have a firm idea if my nephew will actually make it by then. But even if he does, if it's ok with you and your crew, I'd still like to pit near you and immerse him in LSR ! And probably learn a lot of ........ stuff. Thanks for you reply , looking forward to a great year

Looking forward to World of Speed this year. One question, are there people around who might be able to help out? I may be flying solo this year due to son having a new job so he may not be able to go this time. I don't want him to jeopardize his new job just to help me go fast.

After missing the last 2 years, with 2 trips to Elmo as first timers to test new engine and get an education, we are sooo ready for some salt.
As far as SCTA/USFRA, dig them both. We prefer USFRA most of the time but still need our Speed Week fix every few years.
USFRA Pros
1. cheaper entry
2. cheaper rooms
3. better weather (usually)
3. shorter lines and still some fast SOBs and a good show
4. Super cool organization
Cons.
1. no car show

Looking forward to seeing old friends again.

Monte, will y'all update the schedule a little... When will the salt open for pit setup?  OK as I hear it no fuel on the salt, but you can bring a sealed cans...
Ice?  I heard no ice, so has anyone told Smiths, the gas stations and truck stops there may be a run on ice...
I want to try to schedule arrival so I don't take a lot of stuff to town... limiting my possible losses...  :?
See you there

We will have security at the end of the road and on the salt on Tuesday evening. For any of you that want you will be able to leave your trailers on the salt that night.
Vehicle tech inspection will begin on Wednesday afternoon. You will be able to get your pit area set up on Wednesday.
Ellen also spread the word for the Smith's store and gas stations to stock up on ice. We hope they do so.
We are looking forward to having a great meet. See you all there.

Yes, Friday morning after drivers meeting we drop the hammer, i believe if you go to the USFRA web sight it has the schedule.
We show up Wednesday afternoon, drop everything off at our pit, then a nice casual day on Thursday setting up and getting through tech.
Then a few sodas

Thanks, that's helpful info!  I couldn't find any schedule info anywhere online, and I consider myself fairly internet savvy. The USFRA site just recently was updated with a schedule that says "coming soon".

I've got my roadster just about ready to go...should be able to fire it up this week and load it this weekend if everything checks out.

Some helpful information. There is a distributor for the approved gasolines here in Salt Lake area.  Pilot Thomas Logistics,  1117 N. 400 E., North Salt Lake.  (801)-397-8302.
They also carry methanol in cans and bulk.
You will need to check the SCTA website for the list of approved gasolines if you are not already familiar with the list.

We started our course grooming on Saturday the 31st. The salt is dry and hard and we feel confident that conditions will be quite good for World of Speed.
We are prepping two courses, a long and a short. The layout out will be much the same as it was for Speedweek.
We will send some pictures to Ellen today so look for them to be posted on our website and Facebook page.
We anticipate hosting a great event. See you all in a couple of days.

We did get just enough rain last night to settle the dust just as Sid alluded to.
The tracks look as good as I remember them from many years back.
The short course will be used by the Volkswagens, 130 and 150 club vehicles and any short course LSR vehicle that wants to.
I must give a shout out to Mother Nature, SCTA/BNI and BMST. Each of them have done their share of making the salt as good as it is right now. It has made our course preparations go so much better.
The USFRA volunteers have been putting in the hours to make this event happen. We are excited to host you all at the World of Speed.
For those that are interested, check out the salt camera at the 5:55 time stamp today.

I can't make it this year. We are in the process of moving to a new house in town and packing up things to move and paring down all the stuff  from my workshop- necessitated by only having a 3-car garage now- is taking all the time right now. I didn't have the time or money to repair the damage in such short time Mike. I hadn't been to work in more than two months up until SW & the bills keep coming regardless so if I'd spent the money to repair it there wouldn't have been money to run it. My race number is 650 & it really equates to building a big liner on 6 bucks & change.

I'm that eternal optimist. I was hoping. Crazy how us guys from the Southern Hemisphere have a hard time with LSR?. I'm not really in there yet but the two Kiwis were/are on a mission.
This is all dogged determination. Maybe 6 bucks and change is the true spirit of the game?. God Bless you Sid.

Yesterday I showed 160mph on my GPS so I backed down at the 2. Today I ran twice and both times my GPS read 163mph and then I backed down. I'm already in the 150 club so my goal was to see what my car could do and have fun. Tomorrow I will spend my time watching the cars run and Monday the long drive to Scottsdale. NO TRAILOR.

No.  Livestreams are pretty boring.  There's alot of hurry up and wait downtime,  course shutdowns for 45mins, ect.
The best way to see the action is show up and walk through the staging lanes when cars are sitting at the line.  Wander over to the pits,  see the cars go by at speed.
Check youtube for recent videos.  I'll be posting what footage I got later next week.
Sneak peek.

We set a new F/ Fuel Roadster record at 212.301 mph with my roadster, which got me into the 200 mph club.   (Previous record was 204.074)

In the process, I burned some of the paint off of the hood side, had to replace spark plug wires with loaners from Mike Strasburg, and wasn't let into impound on a technicality (stopped on the return road next to the pit for literally a minute...long story).

But then we went even faster the next two passes, so it all worked out.  The salt was in great shape...better than I've seen it in a long time.

We managed to set 2 records over the course of the WoS meet in 2024.

On Sept 6th, we took the opportunity to make 4 test runs on the 1-mile course, which allowed us to learn a lot about the new engine combination before making any qualifying passes on the combo course.

We qualified on the 7th in H/DT.

On Sept 8th, we bumped the existing H/DT record from 144.6 to 157.340 mph.

Then, on the 9th, we were able to qualify again, make a backup run, and bump that record up to 163.328 mph.  Not bad for a 1.5 Liter diesel truck.

Conditions were great for racing.  I know there were a lot of issues with the timing equipment being down.  If USFRA will accept donations for new timing equipment, count me in for at least $100.

Steve.

Apology incoming,

The 2024 World of Speed has come and gone.  Several records were set, some which we are not so proud of. Record wait times in the staging lanes, record number of missed times, record downtime due to our malfunctioning timing system.

We sincerely apologize for the missteps on our part. Our timing system has aged out and is going to be replaced.

The racers and crews, gave us words of encouragement as we worked through the difficulties. We were eventually able to get things sorted out and the event ended on a smooth and satisfying trend.  Many of you came forward after the event to shake hands and offer kind words and understanding sentiments. Also many offers of help, both technically and financially have come forward. We are humbled by the show of willingness to help. As club officers and volunteers we are committed to move forward and improve our events so that we can make things better in the future.

We are currently investigating a few different paths forward and will select the one that will suit the needs of the racers in the best way possible. Stay tuned for further updates and we hope to see you all next year.

Sincerely,

USFRA officers and volunteers.

Monty, I think I speak for the majority of WOS attendees when I say that "sh*t happens" and I think it would be wrong to try to lay blame at anyone's feet. You and all the great people who do soooo much so that we can race are the best !! Yes it was frustrating to wait in the long lines only to be shut down but you all did the best possible under the circumstances. The fact that the club recognizes the need for some new equipment shows that you guys are aware and planning on doing something instead of making excuses. I for one will continue to support the club and when I'm too old to get out of the car, I'll be there as a volunteer!  :-D Again, a HUGH THANK YOU  to the entire crew for all you guys and gals do !

Three years of no meets (income), rust, volunteers, salt clean-up, BLM neglect, are problems you had to overcome, not excuses. I feel the enthusiasm and spirit far exceeded the delays. We got the "SALT" and those sunrises back for a few days. We got to reacquaint with our family again. We got hugs, smiles, and handshakes. We ran, broke and got records. We were THERE again! Thanks Dennis, Monte, Ellen, Cindy, Ron, timers, patrol, gate, mile watchers and all that go unnoticed, unnamed and underappreciated. Your love of us and our "SALT" showed up for another "GREAT" World of Speed. Thank you-Thankyou-THANKYOU!!!!!!

Well we had a perfect WoS and as always the volunteers did a great job... yes there seemed to be some delays, but the chance to race on a good course far exceeds any wait time to do so.  Second the great Job by the volunteers.
It's always good to see our USFRA friends and even better to visit the SCTA/BNI inspectors at IMPOUND!!!
We finished with a broken engine and a 234.636 middle mile record in J/BFL... best mile 239.669 with a 240.7 exit
They always run best before they don't

Just got home yesterday, Friday 13th. This was my first time with the car on the salt and I did enjoy it. Got a 198+ time slip, so next time I can turn it loose. There is nothing else like it, quite different from running a paved mile. I have to thank all the USFRA folks for the time and effort spent to make the event happen, very well planned and organized. I met some good people and saw some really impressive machinery.  I met Sid and ZZ, two of the nicest and most helpful guys out there. We developed a strange noise with the tow truck, (old brown Suburban), which Sid quickly diagnosed as a pulley coming loose. Sid then said I should go ahead and make my pass and he would tow me back while my brother worked on the truck. Back in the pits, ZZ then brought over a box of nuts and bolts and stayed there until we got it fixed. I can't say THANK YOU enough, you guys are the BEST.

Good to hear the old brown Burb-dog made it all the way back home to Tennessee, how many gas stops was that M8? :? You might need to put a 4L80 trans in it for some mileage, it can be done without an ECU.
  Sid.

Hi everyone.  Here's part 2 . Enjoy 😎.
Finally used my new 300 lens. Took awhile to get a rhythm filming but learned a few things and try different things next year.

Well this was my first trip to the Salt and it was amazing.  Sid, Marty, Sara, Rob and Matt, thank you for a great trip.  @tommysgarage...no problems at all, glad you made it home safely.  Been working on my car since I got home.

I guess the old Suburban got a fair amount of attention, but it has shown me that it is not so well suited to pulling a 24' trailer. Not very stable on the road with a cross wind and poor fuel economy. I think a bigger diesel truck would make the trip easier. 4200 miles in the old Suburban really wore me out. I am very grateful for the fine folks who helped keep it going, my brother and I had a good time and I want to do it again.
