I'm working on a bunch of projects.
Got so much to do I have to tidy the shop.
I'd fill a plane hangar given the chance.
I'm a slob.

Pics next week boys.

Some photos of the head progress.

Porting the exhaust ports for the high port plates.
The valve guide bosses are eliminated. I have a chunk of Toughmet we'll use to machine a nice bullet shaped profile for the new guides.

Boys, I had to get a new email address.

pro1racinglsr@outlook.com

For those that had the old one.

God Bless.

Lots of crazy stuff going on.

The long car was beating me down and I behaved like a spoilt kid.
Changed tack and turned to the Redeemer.
Not a 50/50 deal. Recluse/hermit stuff.

I said I had help in the beginning but now it dried up. No, I dried up.

You have to hit rock bottom before you can start climbing back up.

Like everyone said, "Do what you can with what you have!".
I was going to try and roll a cone from 3mm stainless steel to join the Y joint from the cold sides
of the turbo to the throttle body. I could have taken a drawing to the engineers and had one machined
from billet but I would have waited months.

DIY. I have good quality Polystyrene, Epoxy and S glass. Use your noggin. You shaped Harley tanks by hand fool.

Cut some blank flanges from 3mm ABS using another Divine Intervention tool. A wrecked Starrett hole saw and a long bolt. I even eyeballed the hole
for the centring drill. How do you drill a 6mm hole without first punching a dimple?????. Right down the middle of a high tensile bolt!!!!!.
Think I was working alone????.
I got 2 nuts and then fashioned a cutting tool from a hardened long shanked wood boring thing I've never used and tigged it to one nut.
The other was for locking. I know I should have used a fine pitch bolt because this puppy only adjusts in 2mm increments.
Turned out that it worked just fine.
Got a 10mm steel rod and sandwiched it between 2 oversize blocks of Styrene using epoxy and when that had cured I pressed on the big end and small end
plastic discs using epoxy again.
After it set up I got the lump of junk in the drill press and hand shaped my curvy cone. After I reached the limits on the discs I put one layer of S glass over
the Styrene and let that cure.
The next day I used an epoxy based fairing paste that expired on 2017. Still works. Go figure.
More shaping and when I was happy I gave it 3 coats of epoxy. After that I wet sanded and polished the piece.

Using the drill press as a makeshift lathe was one of the better moves I've ever made.
This male mould is like glass and it's been polished and now ready for some Carbon.

I tried posting some pics and even though I used my calculator the files are too big for Slim.

Some more.

THAT. .is using the ol' noggin....And what the hell did you do to that vise? Drill it for lightening??😂😂😂. Carry on, JB
I`d never advocate drugs, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone...But they work for me.

tauruck

Ha ha ha.

The vise is old and abused. Between the jaws it's a Swiss cheese deal.😁
All good brother.
I just bonded the blow off valve plate to the cylinder. I used some crazy NASA
approved epoxy adhesive that can stand impossible temperatures. JFK changed all
our lives when he said we're going to the Moon.

I'm dancing around the shop with joy today.🙏🏻✝🙏🏻✝
A guy I hardly know solved my gearing problem.
He called out of the blue asking if I needed a transmission for the long car because he heard via
the grapevine I did. Met him a couple of times 15 years back. He's the "guy" you go to in S.A. for
Ford auto boxes.
Rowan's giving me the trans meant for the liner.
Ford 4 speed with a .67 overdrive. I'll have to ask Tom to do that gear calc thing for me so we can
get the cam designed.

I'm parting with the C4 and a manual box on the deal.
God is Good brother.
Since I stopped stressing and letting go everything is just coming to me.

"the breakfast of champions" by Wesley Orr (3 time world karting champion and a good friend).
This project has a new perspective now.

Side note....I "saw this guy who" bored a large hole with a scrap hand file. Cut it to length, ground cutting edges opposite of each other and welded it to an arbor. Worked better than I thought it would.

I think simple solutions are always better.
There's a guy on YouTube with a channel called "Inheritance Machining".
He's got a lot of great tools but makes his own too.

Case in point. I'm self taught on almost everything I do.
Way back in the day guys that were experts in the composites industry used
multiple wedges to pry parts out of moulds. I built a top hat bushing into
my complex moulds and used my air gun to blow some air in there to
break the vacuum seal. It's a joke Jerry.

Making a plan is better than going shopping.

tauruck

I watched all 7 days on the live feed on YouTube.
I'm more determined than ever. Not a spectator sport they said but I was looking out for all of you.

I would have loved to be there.

Things are progressing here and I know I keep saying I'll post pics. I figured how to reduce the size
and get all those in a new folder over the next few days.

All the help I've gotten here over the years is money. Been finding a lot of big buck builds on YouTube
from a few years back and they still haven't made it to the salt so I don't feel too left out.

I also found a few interviews featuring George. Everything he said made sense. RIP George.

The two support tubes I fitted from behind the motor to the cage are going to require a revised body.
My initial shape was more like the Maro Bros liner but now it will look much like the Speed Demon from the cockpit back.
It's a good thing I held off on producing the bodywork before I finalized the chassis structure. This small mod has huge implications
but it is what it is.
The only other option would be to eliminate those struts but my Boss knows way more than I do.

I saw the first batch of maniched parts at Honingcraft and they look awesome.

tauruck

My body work issue.

The two roll hoop braces go from narrow at the cage to wide around the turbos
and it's not a huge deal but the original body work will intersect about halfway.

Changing mounting points is not possible. I either eliminate them or I change
the body. The actual work isn't a big deal but I don't want it looking like I copied
someone else. My CFD was already done on the original.

This was going to be a teardrop shape from the cockpit back.
If I go with the current configuration I'll have a liner looking like
Speed Demon. Not a bad thing and you shouldn't worry about
opinions but 13 years in I don't need to be called a copycat.

This whole thing is getting out of whack. The canopy will have to be wider and longer.
The body height will need to change too. I'm all out of ideas.

I don't see those two diagonals from the back of the cage doing much to stiffen up the chassis with their rear location being in the middle of nowhere on that corner. Moving that location down to the top rail junction point would be more desirable & if you need to put a bend in it to clear the engine or body line, a small link from that new bend out to the top chassis rail would stiffen it up. I expect getting those in & out of there will be a bit of an issue with chassis loading & flex, out in the heat, on it's wheels or on stands it will move. We had two engine bars like that on Betsy & had Heim joints on one end of them to deal with the variation.

Thanks Sid and Jerry.
Will a change of motor help?.

This adventure is too good to be true.
My 4V heads went to my engineer to solve a mistake he made 10 years ago.
He owned it and came up with a solution but told me he was retiring in October
as well as being in a rush to finish a Dakar race truck thing. My heads would
be done after the race truck. I do Carbon and he does machining.

I dropped my phone in the toilet and lost all my data but I know his landline
number by heart so a few days ago I called. No answer. Yesterday the same
so my missus went there and he's gone. He either couldn't reach me, had to move
or passed on. I'm the fool for not getting his mobile number when I dropped the
heads.

I have another option. A Volvo T5 motor. I see guys in Sweden are getting 1,200@8,600RPM.
I have injectors, ECU, coils, the throttle body, turbos and a bunch of stuff that's common to all engines.

I was getting stick on the Cleveland iron block as it is. If I don't find my heads
this may be the way to go. With the smaller engine I can put the braces where they work best.
The vote is 50/50 on the 351. Some say 1,000HP no problem, others say no way.
Talk about a moving target?. I may be the biggest problem on this deal.
