Dose anyone know why two and four stroke motorcycle engines are in the same class? A 250cc bike is a 250cc bike in LSR . Most other racing organizations put them in different classes. With the two stroke sadly going the way of the dinosaur is there a way to add a new class for four stroke engines?
Thank you to all the volunteers

at an scta event there is a pushrod class and then everyone else --so the 2 strokes run in the same class as the non pushrod motors  --there may be a some exceptions not sure ---willie buchta

OHC four srokes and two strokes run in the same class.  Pushrod motors are seperate and flatheads get a 33 1/3% discount (they drop a class).  I believe the pushrod class (open to correction on this) was created to allow Harleys and other pushrod motors to remain competitive.  A pushrod 500cc single obviously has no chance against a 500cc four cylinder two stroke GP machine.

When you get the MC committee to all agree on something we can have one heck of a party :-D :?

Nope, all wrong.

There is an open class for the absolute fastest engines known to technology.

Then there are the classes for all of the non-competitive engines so they can set records too.
Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.

in that case dean why dont you build a 50 cc flathead and come run against my 1000 cc overhead   willie buchta

I have to beat the HAYABUSA'S  :-( making it just about IMPOSSIBLE to get in the 200mph club let alone a record !

I've always thought they were in the same class because they had the same displacement.  Do we need separate classes now for 4-valve and 2-valve, and 3-valve and overhead valve and overhead cam engines.  Don't you guys have enuf?  Sure am getting tired of "I built this, so why can't I have a record".  How about reading the Rule Book and then deciding what to build?  You all don't have to play in our (SCTA) game -- we've got enuf already.

I think the answer is simple... You get to pick your poison. You can run what ever you want for displacement. kinda like the Kaz dilema... Do you think 2 strokes are at a disadvantage because they are old?

I know the ECTA went to a 2 stroke and 4 stroke classes due to money. More classes equaled more revenue for the ECTA... I dont believe it was for any reason. Just ask Scott Guthrie... If it wasn't for all the classes and Guthrie the ECTA would have been a hurting organization...

Of course it's always simple to say its all other organizations then there is the SCTA.. SCTA is unique and all others are similiar.

This is true for cars also. Check out Jacks new lakester and super narrow Car/bike. And who says a Harley is supposed to be competitive with a 'Busa? A 350 Chevy seems to be a much better choice for a "C" class engine than a 352 Packard. But if some dork decides to use a Packard do you expect to hear him crying that he's not got a chance? If you think 2 strokes are a better choice in a given class, then use it. If you don't think a V Rod is as fast as other bikes in the class Then either get a different bike or get used to being the fastest V Rod also ran. Or make up a class like "Worlds Fastest Packard Powered Post War GM Product. No whining.

I, for one, am grateful that the SCTA seperates the 2-strokes and OHCs from the pushrods.  At El Mirage I race an APS/PG 500 that ran a best of 129.8.  Were I in the APS/G class I would be running on a 166.9 record set by Don Vesco in 1975 on a Yamaha 2-stroke.  I'm guessing he borrowed a factory road racer.  If I had to run my bike on that record would I bother?  If the flathead lovers were told they had to race against OHVs how many would be out there?  If highboy street roadsters were told they were in the same class as modified roadsters how many would be there?  The SCTA with all its various classes, car and motorcycles, gives a lot of people a chance to go fast with what they choose or love and to set a record.  We don't need more classes.  As it is you can just about build anything and find a class for it.

I don't race on motorcycle. Road one to work a lot. But I do race a Packard powered car in CC/GAlt and I don't whine about the Chevys being faster.
