If it was me I would not cut pipe until I had a firm answer.

Boy, it cant get any clearer than that.  Chances are if DW thinks its illegal I would bank on it being illegal.

Part of the problem appears to be the antiquity of the rule.  If Dan's assessment is correct, that would also explain why the rule permits the replacement of the independent rear end with a solid axle.  It's as though the rule was custom designed for Stingrays.

Another part of the problem is the definition of the term "manufacturer".  Given the way the entire automotive industry has changed since the last time a Corvette had a solid axle, (what, 46 years or so), the line becomes more blurred with each passing corporate takeover and expansion.

Regarding Honda Motor Company, they are the largest producer of engines in the world, and have a lot subsidiaries and divisions.  If I were LSR M5, I would be scrounging their corporate structure and looking for links between them that would be analogous to GM, Ford, Chrysler, BMW, Volkswagen, and Fiat, and then dig through the SCTA records for examples to bolster my argument in favor of the swap.  I wouldn't hang my hat on the name "Honda Motor Company" alone.

Well, I guess we're making a LOT of progress . . .

I did not know we were talking a definite Honda deal here. I thought this was a secret project, I may have missed something.

If we are indeed talking Honda and you can show that you are able to go to say, Robertson Honda in North Hollywood, CA and buy a CBR engine for your Insight you are good to go.

It seems like way too much work for 130 mph.

He tipped his hand in a previous thread about the manufacturer, but we still don't have any insight as to his intentions.

Does seem like a lot of cloak and dagger for 130mph.

Cute.

It's no big secret. I just didn't want to say for sure what my plans were until I knew what was legal. I'll be posting in the build diaries section later today.

But it could just be a Prelude to bigger things.

Either way, the build should be quite the Odsessy.
