I talked to Manuel yesterday and he said they were booked up. Somehow I ended up on page 4 of the list and my 10 years of staying with them (including off season stays) went up in smoke. The way I see it now is the rest of them can keep their $200 per night 35 day minimum stay boxes and I'll camp out at Tarantula Gulch. My Race Car needs the money anyway. Wayno

Here's an update for those of you hoping to rent an apartment in Wendover/West Wendover for SpeedWeek 2010:

Last year, as I've told you, Nancy and I rented a two bedroom furnished apartment - for $620/month.  It was pretty good -- great for the price, and no big problems.  This year I've been in contact with thel manager of the complex (Omar) and he tells me that lodging like apartments will be in short supply starting in March - and lasting until who-knows-how-late-in-the-summer.  It seems the military has chosen to send 80 high explosives experts (his story and how can I check it out) and their families to Wendover starting in March 2010.  The soldiers will soak up a good portion - if not all - of the available rentals while they're there.  So - as of now he can't even promise that he'll have an opening for us in August.

He told me this two weeks ago -- and this morning sent me an update - saying the same thing, and that he won't have much further information until perhaps May.  There it is, boys and girls -- another concept of inexpensive lodging at the Salt may have gone away.  World of Speed is starting to look like a better alternative, hey?

OH NO!!!  tried to make a reservation for the RV park at the Nugget and was told it is not a RV park anymore but a truck stop.  anyone else hear of this.  Not only do we have to pay for overpriced hotel rooms, but not the pickings are even slimmer for RV camping with hookups.

That would be a pretty lousy place for a truckstop.  It's not near the exit from the interstate and wasn't big enough to hold dozens of big rigs.  For good information call the West Wendover Welcome Center -- Kerry and Linda can give you addresses and phone numbers and tell you most of the other stuff you might want to know about the two towns.  Kerry's brother is Mike Crawford, the mayor of Wendover, Utah.

Looking for places with RV hookups for Speedweek this year.  Parents are coming to see us race for the first time ever!

I got news that the Nugget RV park was going to be sold or otherwise not be available during Speedweek.  Anybody else get this info?

  One of our crew members tried recently and were told to call back in May to see if they were going to keep it as a RV park
  Try the KOA there # is in the rule book.

Just got off the phone with reservations at Peppermill/Rainbow/Montego - They are now saying that reservations for Speedweek will open on FEB 23 (9:00am MST, 3 day min, yadda, yadda, yadda) rather than the Feb 9 date earlier reported here. Anyone else heard it this way?

Well ...I just spent an hour on the phone trying to find rooms .

I have my 73 year old, arthritic Father coming out from Michigan this year .
If anybody has a lead or contact for a room or apartment for him / us , I would appreciate it .
I will be fine camping , so my main goal is to get Dad taken care of .
