Mike...Should be a W before GM...That is a series 2 carrier 2.29 7.5 ring gear.
I`d never advocate drugs, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone...But they work for me.

Sorry guys I forgot.
I measured the OD and it's 7.5".
Do these all use the same size bearing set?.
If so can someone please give me a part number for the best quality there is?.
The local thief already ripped me off on the BR20 wheel bearings for my big Ford axles.
He sold me Chines junk.

floydjer

You need pinion and carrier bearings? Or axle bearings?

If those are Timken  bearings...And they should be...The Timken # will be stamped into the edge of inner bearing race. Most bearing types and sizes were standardized  during WW2 ....Saw a tractor that had Timkem  #6 bearings.  Oooold.😃

They all use the same bearings. The Motive Gear kits I bought didn't have fine-china bearings. I made solid pinion bearing spacers to replace the collapsible one's.

Sid says they all use the same sizes. Jerry, can you maybe get me a kit #no from a reputable supplier?. I can't take chances here. Thank you.🙏🏻

I have run into problems with rebuild kit because of the the year of the set  the later ones are a little bit different --- MY CRS does not remember just what  sorry

O.K.....1977-1981 are early series 1982-1998 are late series. The manufactured date is on the top of the right side axle tube about 3" away from the edge of the cast housing. Do you know what vehicle the axle came from?

One of the boys suggested I find a 2.14:1 from a Buick le Sabre I think?????.
I remember thinking there won't be a Buick like that in SA.
One million to one shot.
I called George and before I even finished telling him what I wanted he said 2.14:1.
He gave it to me. He passed on last year so I can't get confirmation.
The axle tube 3" away from the edge is covered by the 6 link mounting plates.
The only numbers I have are the ones I quoted but I can check the pinion because it still has the bearing on it.
I'm in this situation because my old OEM spool is still at Honingcraft while they machine the full spool.
Like the fool I am I threw the old bearings out. I have the OD but not the ID.

Thanks Jer, I'll get back to you.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Mike...The manufactured date is also on the ring gear beyond the part #
